[Regnum] The Kalashnikov Concern has produced the first batch of compact AM-17 assault rifles of 5.45 mm caliber. This was reported on Monday, September 1, by the Kalashnikov press service.
"Kalashnikov" has manufactured the first pilot batch of the 5.45-mm AM-17 compact assault rifle. The rifle has previously successfully passed military and state tests," the concern's website says.
Kalashnikov said that the new assault rifle was created on the orders of the military as a promising self-defense weapon for combat vehicle crews and for arming army special forces and law enforcement forces.
During its creation, all requirements for modern automatic small arms were taken into account. Also, based on the feedback in the area of the special operation, a number of changes were made to the machine gun, the press service added.
Earlier, on August 10, Kalashnikov presented a line of modernized AK-15 assault rifles of 7.62 mm caliber. The concern intends to begin their deliveries to the Russian army in the second half of the year. Among other things, shortened and compact versions of the weapon were created.
In mid-May, Kalashnikov presented the newest RPL-20 5.45 mm machine gun, which should be delivered to the troops by the end of the year. This is the first belt-fed machine gun created by the concern.
