[AFRICANEWS] South Africa's trade and industry minister on Monday said that the 30 per cent reciprocal tariffs imposed by the United States could put tens of thousands of jobs at risk.
''We've based this on the ongoing consultations that we have with all the sectors of the economy, from automotive, agriculture and all the other sectors that are going to be impacted,'' said Simphiwe Hamilton, Director-General of the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition.
''At this stage we are sitting at approximately 30,000 jobs that could be affected by this, if it were to be mismanaged in any manner,'' he said.

There is not one formerly colonized sub-sahara African country that is now self ruled that has a higher standard of living, higher employment, better infrastructure, and longer longevity than they had when colonized.
South Africa and Rhodesia is their blueprint for the West.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A grand jury will be gathered to hear the latest evidence as part of criminal referrals for inception of the Russia collusion 'hoax.'
Attorney General Pam Bondi signed an order on Monday directing an unnamed prosecutor to convene a grand jury, Fox News first reported.
It comes after Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard submitted criminal referrals to the Justice Department last month for former President Barack Obama and his officials including ex-Intel Chief James Clapper and ex-CIA Director John Brennan.
She unveiled evidence claiming that Obama and his team illegally conspired in the lead up to the 2016 presidential election to link Donald Trump to Russia.
Some thought her release of documents last month was a tactic to distract from the botched Jeffrey Epstein files review, which has the DOJ reeling with calls for Bondi to resign.
The directive from Bondi on Monday also follows FBI Director Kash Patel discovering a stash of bags in a secret room at the bureau with damning documents related to the Russia investigation that were meant to be burned.
The documents were published by Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and consist of the classified annex to former Special Counsel John Durham's final report on the origins of the FBI investigation into Trump's 2016 campaign.
Bondi's move on Monday is an escalation that takes President Trump's administration a massive step closer to criminally charging Obama and his former administration officials.
A source familiar with the action speculated to the Daily Mail that the criminal referrals Bondi is acting on are likely for John Brennan and James Comey.
While special counsel, Durham examined the FBI's investigation into potential links between Trump campaign officials and Russia during the 2016 election. He concluded the FBI did not have sufficient evidence to launch the investigation at the time.
A person familiar with the discovery speculated to the Daily Mail that it was likely an oversight by previous directors that prevented the documents from being destroyed.
The person added that it's likely the documents would have never seen the light of day if the FBI wasn't diligently looking through everything it comes across at the bureau.
The findings were turned over to Grassley, who chairs the Judiciary Committee.
In a New York Times op/ed last week, senior Obama intelligence officials John Brennan and James Clapper refuted the politicization of the administration's intelligence arms.
'The special counsel John Durham, who was appointed during Mr. Trump's first term to investigate how the Russia probe was conducted, similarly found no evidence of an Obama administration conspiracy against Mr. Trump,' they wrote.
The annex authored by the special counsel shows Clinton's efforts to tie Trump and Russia together and the FBI's failure to investigate Clinton's ties to the Russia collusion allegations.
The Trump administration published last month hundreds of documents related to the Russia collusion scandal.
DNI Gabbard declassified evidence she claims shows the Obama administration 'manufactured and politicized intelligence' to make it appear that Russia and criminal actors impacted the 2016 election.

"Sundance,
I wonder if this changes the answer to your question about the IC. The raid completes the conspiracy. The venue follows the act. This might be getting exciting if the retrieval was the culmination of the conspiracy. And everyone who helped retrieve it, regardless of where they sat, can now be tied to a criminal act executed in Florida. Now, ask the question: What crimes can they be charged with?
IF:
The HPSCI report was the evidence. The DOJ/FBI/IC knew it was declassified yet treated it as if it were not.The purpose of the raid was not to enforce classified document laws, but to retrieve and suppress a document that exposed past criminal conduct, likely manipulation of the 2017 ICA.The act of retrieval (the Mar-a-Lago raid) is what tied all conspirators to a Florida-based overt act, completing the chain and opening up venue for prosecution in Florida."
[FOX] The Justice Department has formed a "strike force" to assess the evidence publicized by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard relating to former President Obama and his top national security and intelligence officials' involvement in the origins of the Trump-Russia collusion narrative.
The DOJ, on Wednesday evening, announced the formation of the "strike force," to investigate potential next legal steps which may stem from Gabbard's recent declassification of records suggesting that Obama administration officials "manufactured" intelligence to form the narrative that then-candidate Donald Trump was colluding with Russia to influence the 2016 presidential election.
Justice Department officials told Fox News Digital that the DOJ takes the alleged weaponization of the intelligence community with "the utmost seriousness."
A source familiar with the strike force told Fox News Digital that everything is being reviewed and that no serious lead is off the table.
The source told Fox News Digital that the National Security Division of the Justice Department will "likely be involved in the investigation."
[REDSTATE] As expected, Texas Democratic politicians have fled the state to deny a quorum for Gov. Greg Abbott ... governor of Texas. Abbott is a Republican. His 2014 Dem opponent, state senatrix Wendy Davis, thought the absolute, most pressing, most important issue facing the state was abortion. Abbott beat the pantyhose off her. His 2018 opponent, Lupe Valdez didn't dwell too heavily on abortion, but she lost too... 's redistricting push. The members flew to Illinois on Sunday, which qualifies as peak irony given that the blue state is arguably the most gerrymandered in the country.
This plan was reportedly hatched with Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL), and the 30 odd Democrats ...every time you hear the phrase white people, white supremacy, white anything but paint, you're listening to a Democrat. Ask him/her/it to reimagine something for you; they do that a lot, though not well. They can hear a dog whistle a mile or two away. They invented the spoils system and Tammany Hall, and inspired the addition of the word (Thomas) Nasty to the English language. They want to stop continental drift and repeal the law of unintended side effects... will spend at least a week there. Given what we saw when they did this in 2021, denying a quorum for an election reform vote, there is no doubt a lot of grandstanding, dramatics, and cringe singing on the way.
In an extraordinary move to counter Republican redistricting in Texas, dozens of Democrats in the state House of Representatives are heading here Sunday to deny a necessary quorum for the GOP to move forward with those efforts.
The roughly 30 Democrats are expected to stay for the week in a plan brokered with Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, who had met with the Texas caucus late last month and has directed staff to provide logistical support for their stay. A news conference with the governor and Texas Democrats is expected later Sunday.
''We're leaving Texas to fight for Texans,'' Texas House Democratic Caucus Chair Gene Wu said in a statement. ''We will not allow disaster relief to be held hostage to a Trump gerrymander. We're not walking out on our responsibilities; we're walking out on a rigged system that refuses to listen to the people we represent. As of today, this corrupt special session is over.''
All of this is just so stupid. The proposed congressional map would be nowhere near as bad a gerrymander as the one in Illinois, where these clowns ran off to. So it's very rich to see Pritzker playing a role in this. Gov. Gavin Governor Hair Gel Newsom ...mayor of San Franciscoas it transformed itself into Poopville, currently governor of Californiaas it transforms itself into Cinderland... (D-CA) has also tried to put himself at the forefront of this fight, but again, this map would still give Democrats a higher number of seats compared to the state's voter splits than Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,'s ridiculous map, which gives Republicans only nine seats. What's happening is hypocrisy on steroids, with Democrats demanding the GOP live by a double standard whereby blue states can rig their maps to the max while holding a veto over the states in red maps.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has already pledged to push the red button, which includes tracking down and arresting the members who fled. The state's constitution allows that as a specific means to combat this kind of gamesmanship.

What's IL's statute on resident status for taxing purposes? If they tax sports players income who come to play a game or series in Chicago, do these people also qualify?
[REDSTATE] Three civil service lawyers in the Department of Justice have been hit with misconduct complaints for representing the Trump administration in court. A nonprofit funded mainly by Pierre Omidyar's
...French-born Iranian-American Progressive multibillionaire founder of eBay, with a particular fondness for the Democratic Party…
Democracy Fund, the Orwellian-named "Legal Accountability Center" has filed ethics complaints with the "grievance committees" of cities where the three lawyers have either lived or practiced.
The three attorneys—Deputy Assistant Attorney General Eric Hamilton, Special Counsel Brad Rosenberg, and trial attorney Liam Holland—made ''materially misleading'' statements in an effort to assure the court that the administration had no plans to shutter the CFPB, lawyers for the Legal Accountability Center said in complaints filed Thursday with state disciplinary offices.
Internal emails written by CFPB acting Director Russell Vought amounted to a stop-work order for staff, contradicting the government's filings in the case, according to the complaints from the center, which is helmed by legal advocate and attorney Michael Teter.
It was that email that provoked the TDS-afflicted Judge Amy Berman Jackson to bleat, ''The court is left with little confidence that the defense can be trusted to tell the truth about anything.''
The fact that employees were given a stop-work order does not contradict President Trump's orders to reduce CFPB functions to the bare minimum required by law and to lay off redundant employees. Given that the Supreme Court has acknowledged the authority of a president to shape the Executive Branch, the CFPB's fate is sealed.
This case has nothing to do with the fate of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. What you are witnessing is an application of Alinsky's Rules for Radicals:
"Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.'' Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.
By targeting the reputation and livelihood of lawyers defending the administration, this group is firing a warning shot over the bow of every lawyer in the federal government. The warning is that if you do your job too well, your career may be destroyed.
This is not the first time around for the man leading the effort to destroy President Trump's ability to receive legal advice. The executive director of the "Legal Accountability Center" is Michael Teter, who also led the charge to punish John Eastman and Rudolph W. Giuliani for aiding President Trump in contesting the very questionable 2020 election results.
What must happen is that the Department of Justice must take these attempts to intimidate staff lawyers seriously. Just like Attorney General Pam Bondi is using the misconduct process to hammer the equally TDS-infected Judge James Boasberg, it should also go after Teter for filing frivolous misconduct claims.
[AMERICANTHINKER] With efforts underway by Administrator Lee Zeldin to reform the EPA's reputation for junk science, it is worthwhile to look back at how science became politicized within that agency. The story begins over a half century ago during the counterculture revolution of the late '60s when environmentalism became popular. Paul Ehrlich, who is often credited with being the founding guru of the environmental movement, became an overnight celebrity with his 1968 best-seller, The Population Bomb. In it, he warned about the consequences of population growth and predicted imminent famine and resource depletion for the world. Not since Thomas Malthus penned his Essay on the Principle of Population in 1798 had there been such widespread interest in the topic. In fact, Ehrlich was a guest on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson at least six times where he captured the imagination of audiences with his predictions of environmental doom and gloom. Over the ensuing decades, none of Ehrlich's predictions came true, but by then the environmental movement had shifted its attention to other perceived offenses of mankind against nature.
A milestone for the environmental movement came when it attained a level of legitimacy and institutional mooring with the founding of the EPA in 1970. The agency came into being at a unique time in American history when hundreds of thousands of graduates were pouring off the university campuses as a result of the expansion of higher education. Some were keen to find ways to express the radicalism they absorbed there. They gravitated to the EPA and ushered in an era in which the protection of the environment became a quasi-religious crusade, fought with increasingly fanatical zeal. It was soon reflected in the mass of environmental regulation that has become a salient feature of American life. Moreover, they created a culture within the EPA that was hostile to business and willing to pervert the science to further their belligerent intent.
It was against this backdrop that the EPA in 2009, with a push from the B.O. regime, embarked on a quest to extend its reach into every aspect of energy production and consumption with the adoption of the CO2 Endangerment Finding. The finding stated that CO2 is a danger to human health and welfare and as such should be regulated by the EPA. Prior to the finding, the EPA had only exerted pressure on electric power utilities to reduce emissions of particulate matter from smokestacks and for the most part the industry complied. With the finding, the EPA insisted that utilities comply with rules that would eliminate CO2 emissions by 2040. It set a requirement so onerous that utilities would have found it impossible to operate coal and natural gas thermal power plants beyond the 2040 deadline set by the agency. What made the ruling even more egregious was that the industry has no alternative for the dispatchable power from thermal plants that is needed to compensate for fluctuations in power output from renewables.
The B.O. regime was confident that the EPA would succeed with this regulatory power grab because the agency by 2009 had a long history of producing junk science to bolster the claims of the environmental and climate movement. The corruption of the EPA is only one example of a government institution that has been influenced by environmental and climate activists masquerading as scientists. Administrator Zeldin's reform agenda entails uprooting that influence and replacing the activist culture that has pervaded the EPA since its inception in 1970. This week, Zeldin announced that the EPA was beginning the process of rescinding the Endangerment Finding, and will reduce the scope of its mission and size of the agency. Zeldin has also started the arduous process to remove climate activists and replace them with competent scientists who can establish a new culture with scientific integrity.

EPA had no business making its CO2 Endangerment Finding. Congress was the appropriate forum to discuss and legislate such matters, but it has been AWOL for many years now. Not so much "junk science" as failure of the legislature to act.

One guy can do only so much against that many corrupt clowns. Getting the CO2 thing reversed would be very helpful. The only true reform would be to weld the doors shut.

While we can likely agree that the EPA has accomplished or addressed many needed, legitimate issues.
It, like any Federal Agency, has been seriously used and abused by too many for political & personal $$$$ agendas.
E.g. Al Gore, cities with pre-80's dump sites all collecting
$$Millions and doing little, or nothing but putting a % of the $$$ in some pockets, all quickly comes to mind.
BTW: Remember when all the scenic coastal properties were being sold off below market price, because the land was going to be underwater in 10 years? Interesting to note who(m) were purchasing the properties and later flipping them. (Just just a state's GIS/property Tax Database)

According to Wikipedia:
"By mole fraction (i.e., by quantity of molecules), dry air contains 78.08% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.04% carbon dioxide, and small amounts of other trace gases"

Seeking, environmentalists usually cite the proportion of CO2 as "400 parts per million", rather than 0.04%, because many people are innumerate. The 400 sounds scarier than the percent.
