Authorities are responding after two passenger trains crashed into each other Friday near Bedford, England, killing at least one person and injuring nearly 90 others.
The East of England Ambulance Service said it was called to a collision involving two trains at Elstow, near Bedford, at about 5:15 p.m. local time and quickly declared a "major incident."
One person died at the scene, 11 people suffered very serious injuries, 22 were seriously injured and 56 people had minor injuries, officials said.
Bedford is roughly 60 miles north of London.
Sources told The Telegraph the train driver was on the phone with maintenance staff discussing a safety issue at the time of the crash.
[Breitbart] Taking a page out of the playbook of Democrat-run “sanctuary” cities in the United States, the Green-governed Lambeth Council in London has vowed to no longer assist the British government in detaining illegal migrants.
This means they will no longer provide intelligence on foreigners in the area around the British capital to the Home Office, potentially creating a security crisis.
The decision, which was made by former Green Party co-leader Jonathan Bartley, was motivated by concerns that immigration raids in London were “causing fear” and “dividing communities”, the Daily Mail reported.
Explaining the decision, Bartley said, “Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths and we want all residents to feel safe, valued and able to engage with public services without fear.
“As Refugee Week begins, it is right that we take a careful and transparent look at how information is shared in relation to immigration enforcement activity.
“We need a clear picture of what is happening now, under what circumstances information is being shared, and whether current arrangements reflect the kind of borough we aspire to be.”
Bartley said that it was important to the Green council leadership that all migrants feel “welcome” and in Lambeth, given the local government’s commitment to “diversity, equity, and inclusion”.
He said that migrants “fear a knock on the door from immigration enforcement” and thus may not come to the council if they are in “exploitative circumstances”.
“And that’s why I’ve launched a review of all council services to make sure we are not cooperating with immigration enforcement, that we are combating the hostile environment,” Bartley said.
“For every person in Lambeth, Lambeth should be a safe and secure community where they have access to public services without fear.”
The step by the Lambeth council appears to be inspired by the concept of “sanctuary cities” in the United States, where left-wing Democrat politicians have made similar arguments as to why they refuse to work with federal immigration officials.
Conservative MP Chris Philp described the move by the Green-led council as “extreme” and “dangerous”, noting that it could serve to incentivise human traffickers to send more migrants to London.
“Immigration officers do a vital job tracking down anyone who has come here illegally. Stopping them from doing their duty sends a signal to human traffickers everywhere that Britain is a soft touch. The only thing the Greens stand for is open borders at all costs,” Philp said.
Indeed, the Greens have increasingly taken a hardline pro-mass migration stance, with members previously backing plans to provide amnesty to illegal aliens and provide them with taxpayer-funded housing. The BBC reports that Hussen was arrested in a drug bust after allegedly trying to smuggle a massive amount of 320 kilograms of meth from West Africa into Australia. She appeared before a Sydney court on Thursday after being charged with attempting to import a commercial quantity of methamphetamine into Australian territory — which carries a maximum life in prison sentence.
Hussen, 34, is known for her roles in the 2013 film Redemption and in a spinoff of British soap opera EastEnders that first aired in 2010. The actress was refused bail last month and is due back in court in August.
The Australian Federal Police informed that it launched an investigation in April after Australian Border Force (ABF) officers in Sydney detected anomalies in shipping containers coming from Ghana. The illicit substance was found concealed in purported bags of coal. Further testing determined the substance to be methamphetamine.
Hussen allegedly attended the storage facility and supervised over several men as they unpacked the container, with a number of bags transported to a house in Blacktown. AFP investigators later executed a search warrant and arrested the British actress.
“Police located 32 bags at the house, which were allegedly those that had previously contained methamphetamine,” AFP said on Thursday. “Electronic devices and a notebook were also seized and will be subject to further forensic examination.”
In addition to Hussen, a couple from Adelaide, identified as a 30 year-old woman and a 32 year-old man, were also arrested by AFP investigators for attempting to rent storage units in Sydney to house the shipped drugs under false identities.
AFP noted that investigations to determine the exact role that the couple had in the drug smuggling operation are still ongoing as of June 18. The couple were remanded in custody to reappear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on September 2.

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) continues to run away from its main rival, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its sister party, the Christian Socialist Union (CSU) in a new poll, which shows the AfD nine points ahead.
The AfD achieved a new record in the current YouGov poll, reaching 29 percent, while the CDU/CSU and SPD have hit all-time lows. The results are expected to pile on the pressure on a governing coalition the German public increasingly despises.
In the YouGov poll, CDU/CSU achieves 20 percent of the vote and SPD earns 12 percent. The Union parties have never been worse in a YouGov poll.
However, the Greens at 14 percent and the Left Party at 12 percent are making slight gains.
The FDP is also gaining ground, reaching 5 percent for the first time in a year and a half after a new chairman was elected, Wolfgang Kubicki.
The results for the CDU in particular are bound to spark further turmoil in the party, with some members perhaps even eyeing a future coalition with the AfD, a move that has been soundly rejected by CDU leadership. In particular, Chancellor Friedrich Merz has vowed to never work with the party.
The conundrum for the CDU remains that the party is forced to build coalitions with predominately left-wing parties like the Greens, the SPD, and even the Left Party, through its firewall against the AfD. The resulting politics have left CDU voters increasingly unhappy with the results, but remarkably, about half of CDU voters also reject a coalition with the AfD.
Majority of Germans reject politicizing the World Cup
YouGov also found that a majority of Germans do not want the World Cup politicized. The German national team has a history of taking a "woke" stance in the last two World Cups, but the German team was eventually humiliated in each tournament, failing to advance past the preliminary round in both World Cups.
However, Germans soundly reject politics in football, with 65 percent of respondents saying they want the World Cup and politics to be strictly separated. After years of lies, censorship, and cover ups, the American people deserve transparency, truth, and accountability," Gabbard said in a statement accompanying the release. "The tactics used to hide the truth are straight from the deep state playbook: politicized self-serving leaders like Dr. Fauci covered up their own wrongdoing and abuses of power, manipulated intelligence, lied to Congress, and undermined a duly elected President by restricting his access to vital facts needed to keep the country safe."

Finally, something AI can't do. [Breitbart] Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins is celebrating the agreement by the Department of Homeland Security to grant seasonal H-2A work permits to year-round migrant dairy workers.
“The guidance clarifies that dairying is an agricultural activity eligible for consideration under the H-2A program and recognizes that dairy operations may experience temporary or seasonal labor needs that qualify for H-2A employment,” Rollins’ department said in a June 17 press release.
“Obviously, someone in the administration wants to get dairy into the unlimited seasonal temporary agricultural program, so apparently [it] is just redefining the word ‘seasonal,'” responded Rosemary Jenks, the Harvard-educated lawyer who runs the Immigration Accountability Project. She added:
We’re going to be importing a serf class to our dairy industry, just like we do with our crops, and allow dairy owners to pay lower wages, and have worse working conditions, and push Americans [including recent legal immigrants] entirely out of the industry. It’s ridiculous.
The legislation that created the H-2A visa program says it is reserved for seasonal workers, and industry lobbies have been asking Congress for many years to remove the statutory limit, she said.
Unlike seasonal row crops or fruit orchards, “you have to feed cows, and move them, and milk them, every single day, 365 days a year,” she said.
“Cows do not go on vacation, and generally neither do dairy workers,” she said, adding: “If you start with a law that says these workers must be temporary or seasonal, and you end up with, ‘Oh yeah, [year-round] dairy workers qualify,’ you’ve turned yourself into a pretzel.”
The bureaucratic giveaway, she said, also minimizes marketplace pressure on the dairy industry to raise productivity by investing in robot cow-milking machines, including machines assembled in Palla, Iowa.
The machines are widely used in Europe and other developed countries, where farms are expected to maximize efficiency — and where politicians try to preserve their dense community of family farms, well-paid workers, and prosperous towns.
In 2024, the Wall Street Journal reported:
[Farmer] Onan Whitcomb … spent $800,000 on four Dutch-made milking robots. Milk production per cow has grown by 30% and the incidence of mastitis, an inflammatory disease, has declined by 80%, he says, meaning less spent on antibiotics. Whitcomb says he was able to cut 2.5 jobs, and the investment paid for itself in seven years.
The overall H-2A migrant program — which will import roughly 400,000 workers in 2026 — has slowed the technological development of the U.S. agricultural sector, Jenks added.
The new policy will allow the nation’s biggest dairy farms to minimize automation, to discard their existing workforce of illegal migrants, and to import an army of disposable and very cheap H-2A seasonal migrants.
The dairy industry employs roughly 130,000 workers. Half are American, half are migants, says the industry news site Progressive Farmer.
The employers’ opportunity to use capped-wage H-2A workers instead of free-market citizens will also impose hidden costs on the local towns.
The H-2A workers spend most of their earnings back in their home countries, so denying rural towns the business income, tax revenue, and the children that American workers produce. “We’re importing a class of peasants to do the work that the elites think is beneath us,” she said.
The result is that farming towns shrivel and die without the business income, tax revenue, and the children that American workers produce. “We’re actually sending them back to the 1200s [serfdom] … and this is just the opposite of what we should be doing in 2026,” Jenks said.
