Five years into Texas’ border security mission Operation Lone Star, law enforcement efforts in South Texas have become so successful that transnational criminal organizations are moving stolen vehicles and equipment south out of Texas to Mexico and using shipping containers to transport people across the Gulf of America to other states, OLS officials said.
Although southwest illegal border crossings have dropped by 95% in the first year of the Trump administration, OLS 2.0 is ongoing, with law enforcement targeting transnational crime. And in Jackson County, roughly two hours south of Houston, they’re getting caught.
OLS has become so effective that instead of cartel operatives moving large groups of people north into the U.S. through Texas, they’re using shipping containers to go around Texas and cross the Gulf, OLS participants told The Center Square.
“They’re doing that instead of getting caught in the OLS net on I-59. Our operations have saturated the highways,” Jackson County Sheriff Rick Boone told The Center Square in an exclusive interview.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is a founding member of an OLS Task Force led by Goliad County Sheriff Roy Boyd. If OLS funds stop and task force operations don’t continue, illegal traffic “is coming right back,” Boone said.
“Proactively hitting hotspots as heavily as we have has really paid off. When we started OLS, we began saturating routes like Highway 59. Then we pushed the illegal traffic to I-10 and then we saturated that area. Then we pushed the illegal traffic further north where they were going into Dallas. Then we formed additional OLS partnerships in new regions and saturated those areas. Then we pushed them as far west as the state of Arizona to the point where law enforcement wanted to come down and see what we were doing so they could do the same thing.
“Every day the cartels are looking for a route or a hole to get through to get here,” he said. “That hasn't stopped. They've just morphed into different ways to move their product, and that’s people, drugs, cash, weapons, stolen vehicles and other contraband.”
One OLS Task Force member, JCSO Criminal Interdiction Deputy Jorge Franco, is actively working to stop them. He’s well-skilled at finding stolen license plates, vehicles, equipment, tools and has an instinct for catching thieves, Boone and others have told The Center Square. His position is fully funded by OLS.
One night, Franco made a major bust. He noticed a semi-truck driver hauling five stacked chassis on a trailer. Most in law enforcement may not think twice about the haul, but because of OLS training, Franco suspected theft and he was right, officials said. He also uncovered something bigger.
The driver was a Guatemalan national with a California commercial driver’s license who spoke broken English. Franco, fluent in Spanish, learned he’d flown into Phoenix and then drove to Houston where he switched vehicles. He then picked up the 18-wheeler and stacked chassis and drove south. Franco said he used resources he already had to recover other stolen vehicles and discovered the chassis were stolen from the Houston Shipyard.
The shipyard’s security team determined “not only were all of those stolen but they realized they were missing hundreds more, up to 600 trailers that were either missing or stolen,” Boone said. The five chassis would transport five shipping containers that could fit hundreds of people inside. It’s unknown how many lives Franco saved, Boone said.
An OLS DPS trooper working in the Rio Grande Valley has made a similar bust as has another OLS Task Force member in another county, The Center Square has learned. Border Patrol in Corpus Christi have confirmed a new trend: cartel operatives are using shipping containers and equipment stolen in the U.S. and elsewhere to ship foreign nationals and stolen goods from Mexico across the Gulf.
“That is why they are stealing the chassis trailers. That is the only reason a truck would be hauling that many, to use for shipping containers,” Franco said.
Once the cartels get the equipment to a port, “they put people, vehicles other items in a shipping container and ship them out,” Franco said. “The cars are stacked and shipped to Africa and the East Coast. People are being shipped across the Gulf to ports in Florida and elsewhere.”
“Most of the chassis and trailers are in terrible condition,” he said. “They’d been stored in a lot to be fixed up and most of the time the owners don’t even know they were stolen.”
Franco is working with multiple agencies on interdiction efforts from Dallas to Brownsville, targeting transnational crime. OLS Task Force sheriffs say this wouldn’t be possible without OLS funding.
“Crime is never going to stop,” Franco said. A task force member jurisdiction has recently been hit hard with several shootings and requested help. OLS Task Force members responded. “We multiple our forces. It helps other agencies that are struggling,” he said. “When we come together, we take our expertise to different areas of investigations. We bring the best of the best to wherever we are.”
The sheriff’s office impounded the truck, named “El Chapo,” after the Mexican Sinaloa Cartel kingpin, who is now incarcerated in the U.S. The Guatemalan driver was arrested and faces several charges.
He didn’t know the chassis were stolen and headed to Mexico, Franco said. Instead, he got arrested and ended up in the Jackson County Jail.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested 12 additional suspected terrorist logistics suppliers at Gubio market in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.
A military source said the suspects were apprehended on Sunday afternoon during a targeted operation aided by credible intelligence and a concealed informant.
The latest arrest brings to 53 the number of suspected terrorist logisticians, couriers and informants captured within the past one week as part of intensified logistics strangulation operations by the theatre command.
According to the source, the sustained operations are aimed at dismantling supply chains sustaining Boko Haram and ISWAP elements across the North-East.

Tens of thousands of people marched through central London Saturday to protest against the far right, weeks ahead of local elections and six months after Britannia saw one of its largest far-right demonstrations. "Far-Right"
Organized by hundreds of civic groups, including trade unions, anti-racism campaigners and Moslem representative bodies, Saturday’s Together Alliance event was billed as the biggest in UK history to counter right-wing extremism.
Some leading British Jewish groups accused the march organizers of failing to include the Jewish community in its demonstration, although several left-wing Jewish organizations did take part, marching together as a bloc.
A separate pro-Paleostinian march organized by the Paleostine Coalition also converged with the main rally at the end of its route. Many in its contingent carried Iranian flags and signs demanding an end to the US-Israeli war against the Islamic Theocratic Republic.
While organizers claimed half a million had turned out in total, the police gave a figure of around 50,000.
Protesters carrying placards with slogans like "no to racism" and "you cannot divide us" marched from near Marble Arch to Whitehall near the UK parliament for a planned rally featuring various speakers.
They included left-wing politicians like Zack Polanski, leader of the increasingly popular Green Party, singer Billy Bragg and members of English reggae band UB40.
"Days like this are here to send a message... we are unstoppable," Polanski told the event, which appeared to have attracted people of all ages from across Britannia.
Student Emily Roth told AFP there was "a global toxic climate and the UK is not fighting it."
"The government is obsessed with immigration but that’s not our biggest problem," the 23-year-old said as she walked the route.
The London Metropolitan Police, which had promised a "significant policing presence" to ensure various protests passed off safely and lawfully, later said officers had made 25 arrests.
It noted 18 of those followed a protest near the Together Alliance rally in support of Paleostine Action, an activist group banned under anti-terror law.
England’s High Court ruled last month that the government’s ban on Paleostine Action was unlawful, and police briefly stopped arresting those who showed support for it. But last week, the police announced that arrests would resume until the court ruled on an appeal filed against the ruling.
Of the other seven arrests, the police said two people were arrested for scaling the columns outside the National Gallery. It did not immediately provide a reason for the other five arrests.
’WORRIED’
The Together Alliance march followed a rally organized last September by far-right activist Tommy Robinson that drew up to 150,000 people, many of whom draped themselves in English and British flags.
That event was marred on its fringes by what police called "unacceptable violence" which saw festivities with officers that left several of them seriously injured.
Robinson is planning a follow-up rally in mid-May.
Saturday’s march also came less than six weeks before voters head to the polls for elections to Scotland’s parliament, the devolved assembly in Wales and local councils in London as well as some other parts of England.
Anti-immigration figurehead Nigel Farage’s hard-right Reform UK party, which has been leading in national polls for over a year, is predicted to perform well across the contests.
Robert Gadwick, 48, who had traveled from Bath in western England for Saturday’s march, said he was "worried" about Reform’s rise.
"We’ve been there with Brexit — it’s all the same lies and yet some people decide to believe it," he told AFP.
"We need to speak the truth... voting for Reform is a vote for more chaos and more uncertainty and we certainly don’t need more chaos."
Retiree Rose Batterfield, of central England, echoed the sentiment, saying the "current political climate" concerned her.
"I don’t really recognize Labour anymore," she said of the country’s centre-left ruling party which has been criticized for shifting to the right.
"The idea that you can implement far-right ideas in order to stop the far right is nonsense."
JEWISH GROUPS RAISE CONCERNS, OTHERS JOIN MARCH
Ahead of Saturday’s march, several leading Jewish groups raised concerns about the nature of the demonstration, alleging that the Jewish community had been shut out of the event.
The senior vice president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, Adrian Cohen, told GB News on Friday that the Jewish community has a long history of taking a stand against "extremism of all stripes."
While concerned about the activities of the far-right, he said, British Jews are also concerned "about extremism on the far-left."
"Often those who are on the left of the political spectrum, who are organizing to oppose activities of the far-right, nevertheless don’t have in mind the concerns and interests of the communities who are under threat from racism, including, in this case, antisemitism," Cohen said.
He said that following the Hamas ..the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,... October 7, 2023, attacks in Israel and the ensuing war, which sparked a wave of antisemitic incidents globally, the biggest concern for the UK’s Jewish community has been "far-left agitation."
He said that the simultaneous pro-Paleostinian "feeder march" that would be joining the larger Together Alliance protest also complicated matters for the Jewish community.
There would be a "number of groups" participating whose "focus is anti-Israel, rather than creating bridges, putting their arms out to embrace our community, which is feeling very vulnerable and isolated for very good reasons at the present time," Cohen said.
Despite the concerns of some, other left-wing Jewish organizations did choose to take part in the demonstrations, including Jewish Voice for Liberation, the Jewish Socialists’ Group, and Vahavta UK. The Great Yiddish Parade, a British Jewish musical group, was also in attendance, playing music as the Jewish groups marched together as a bloc.
A number of Jewish people also attended a nearby counterprotest in opposition to the march’s alliance with pro-Paleostinian and anti-Israel groups.

The event did not appear to have any connection to the Together Alliance protest several miles away, although there too, protesters were spotted waving the flag of the Iranian regime.
The Islamic Center of England has long been accused of being a mouthpiece of the Iranian regime, and in 2020 held a similar memorial service for the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Qasem Soleimani, after he was assassinated by the US.
According to the Daily Mail, there was a heavy police presence at the event in order to keep the two sides separate.
Many of the counter-protesters waved the pre-Iranian Revolution sun and lion flag, and others held pictures of the exiled crown prince of Iran, Reza Pahlavi.
Across the street, mourners waved the Iranian flag and held images of Khamenei and his son, the new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who has not been seen in public since his appointment.

Your source misunderstood the history of the thing, my dear. Texas set up a state commission to monitor antisemitism according to the IHRA definition in 2021, the first state to do so. In May, 2025 — almost a year ago — Texas mandated that public schools and universities adopt that definition when judging if student misconduct is motivated by Jew-hate. It is no longer news, nor did it turn out to lead to a flood of unfair punishments by overenthusiastic, pro-Jewish school officials, as feared in certain circles.

Frontier Airlines Flight 2539 (flight number F92539), an Airbus A320 flying from Columbus, Ohio (CMH) to Atlanta (ATL), landed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport around 5:09 p.m.
Shortly after touchdown, the crew declared a potential hijacking and security concern.
The aircraft was immediately directed to isolation away from normal airport traffic and followed by emergency vehicles to an inactive runway.
Video and tracking data show the plane remained isolated on the remote runway for nearly two hours as law enforcement and airport personnel responded.
According to crew audio from the incident, a black male passenger seated in 3A allegedly threatened to kill the passenger next to him and claimed there was a bomb onboard.

Despite his parliamentary immunity, Border Police were also seen putting their hands on Hadash-Ta’al chairman Ayman Odeh, an Arab politician who has been active in the anti-war protests since it began last month.

Haifa police said they arrested lawbreakers, though at least two of those apprehended did not appear to be blocking traffic at the time of their arrest, as seen in footage from the protest.
TENTATIVE INVITATION
Though such protests have been taking place weekly since the outset of the war, they previously recorded a scant turnout of mostly dedicated left-wing activists, many affiliated with pro-peace organizations and the Communist Party of Israel.
Groups such as Rise Israel, Women’s Struggle and the Jerusalem-based Saving our Shared Home spread the word about the demonstrations, but refrained from explicitly calling on their supporters to attend.
An organizer with Saving our Shared Home told The Times of Israel that they are apprehensive about calling on their supporters to transgress the regulations set by the Home Front Command.
"It’s more of a tentative invitation, we’re updating people on the event but not officially inviting them," he said, adding that there are still many anti-government organizations declining to offer any support to the demonstrations.
Polling has found that the ongoing war with Iran enjoys consistent and decisive support among Jewish Israelis.

The IDF Home Front Command issued a warning to civilians near the Neot Hovav industrial zone, south of Beersheba, to remain indoors due to concerns of a hazardous materials leak after the impact at a fertilizer factory and the major fire that followed.
After the fire was brought under control, the Environmental Protection Ministry said that there was no risk to the public.
Minister Idit Silman said that ministry professionals had carried out on-site measurements and monitoring, and that "in accordance with the findings of the updated tests, it was decided to open the roads and return activity to normal."
Workers from the factory and adjacent plants who were hurried off to protected areas were allowed to leave those spaces.
According to the IDF, the missile did not directly hit the industrial zone, but a fragment struck the facility there, causing the large fire.
Home Front Command search-and-rescue forces were dispatched to the scene and operated alongside the fire service to extinguish the blaze, the army said. Fire and rescue teams said they worked to seal and contain damaged chemical storage units at the factory.
Deputy head of the fire service’s Southern District, Itzik Levy, said the containers held a pesticide.
ADAMA, a maker of active ingredients and crop protection materials, said its Makhteshim plant in southern Israel was the one that was hit. ADAMA, part of the Chinese-owned Syngenta Group, noted that the extent of the damage to the plant was not immediately clear.
Emergency services and police initially asked members of the public not to approach the area.
Not long after the factory was hit, another Iranian attack saw a missile hit an open area in the southern city of Beersheba. The blast shattered windows in nearby homes. Rescue services said some 100 homes suffered damage, some of them significant, leaving residents unable to stay in the buildings.
"There was a crazy explosion," one local resident told The Times of Israel. "A few broken windows. But everything is ok."
The Magen David Adom emergency service said 11 people were maimed by "flying objects" caused by the missile’s shockwave.
MDA said it also treated 20 others suffering acute anxiety, and all 31 were taken to Soroka Medical Center.
An eighth missile attack from Iran, also aimed at the south, was intercepted.
Earlier in the day, a missile that triggered sirens in the Jerusalem area and central Israel was also intercepted, while another missile fired at the north was allowed to hit an open area, "according to protocol," the military said.
IDF SAYS IT HIT 140 IRANIAN MISSILE TARGETS
In an afternoon update, the military said the Israeli Air Force struck over 140 targets of Iran’s ballistic missile array in western and central Iran in the past day.
The IDF said the strikes hit sites where Iran stored and launched ballistic missiles, alongside air defense systems.
As Iran fired salvos of missiles at southern, central, and northern areas, its Lebanese ally terror group Hezbollah continued to harass the north with rockets and drones.

La Belle France condemned the two attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Israel, accusing them on Sunday of escalating tension in the Middle East by entering the regional war.
A Houthi front man said the day before that the Iran-backed group had fired missiles and drones towards "several vital and military sites" in Israel.
"The Houthis should abstain from all attacks," French foreign ministry front man Pascal Confavreux said. He accused them of being "irresponsible."
He said everything should be done "to avoid an even greater escalation of the conflict," which has killed thousands across the region and sent energy markets into a tailspin.

The Israeli military on Saturday killed Hezbollah-affiliated journalist Ali Shoeib in an airstrike in southern Lebanon, saying he was targeted for being a member of the terror group’s elite Radwan Force
The strike targeted a car in the southern town of Jezzine, and also killed Fatima Ftouni, a reporter with the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Mayadeen channel, the network reported.
The Israel Defense Forces later confirmed the strike, saying Shoeib was an operative in the Radwan Force’s intelligence unit while also working as a journalist for the Hezbollah-owned Al-Manar TV channel.
The IDF said Shoeib “served as a terrorist in the Hezbollah terror organization under the guise of a journalist for the Al-Manar network, while consistently working to expose the locations of IDF troops operating in southern Lebanon and along the border, and maintained continuous contact with other terrorists in the Radwan Force unit in particular, and within the terror organization in general.”
During the ongoing war with Iran, Shoeib “continued his activities and reported on the locations of IDF troops operating in southern Lebanon,” the IDF said.
The military said Shoeib also “engaged in incitement against IDF troops and Israeli civilians, using his position at the channel to disseminate Hezbollah propaganda materials.”
For years Shoeib had been broadcasting from the border with Israel, at times taunting Israeli troops.
In January 2024, Shoeib published a post on X threatening Eitan Davidi, the leader of the Israeli border community of Margaliot. The post included footage showing a Hezbollah operative aiming a gun at Davidi’s home from across the border.
According to Israeli military sources, Shoeib had been in contact with top Hezbollah commanders over the years, including Ali Karaki, the commander of Hezbollah’s Southern Front, who was killed alongside Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah in September 2024; Mohammad Afif, the head of the terror group’s media relations, who was killed in November 2024; and Muhammad Nimah Nasser, the commander of Hezbollah’s Aziz regional division, who was killed in July 2024.
Israel did not comment on, or provide justification for, the killing of Al-Mayadeen reporter Ftouni in the same strike.
Journalists, even those linked to terror groups, enjoy protection under international humanitarian law unless or until they take up arms and participate directly in hostilities, in which case they become a legitimate target.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the strike, saying: “Once again, the Israeli aggression violates the most basic rules of international law, international humanitarian law and the laws of war, by targeting journalists, who are ultimately civilians performing a professional duty.”
“This is a blatant crime that violates all the norms and treaties under which journalists enjoy international protection in wars,” Aoun said in a statement released by the presidency.
Al-Manar TV did not respond to the Israeli allegations of Shoeib’s Hezbollah terror activities, but reported on his killing, describing him as “distinguished by his professional and credible reporting of events.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Sunday that Israel would capture additional territory in southern Leb ...an Iranian satrapy until recently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel... to expand a security zone on Israel’s northern border, as the Israel Defense Forces expanded its ground operation against the Hezbollah terror group.
In a video statement from the IDF Northern Command Headquarters in Safed, Netanyahu said he had ordered the military to "further expand the existing security zone" in Lebanon as a means to "fundamentally change the situation" in northern Israel, where communities have been subject to weeks of near-constant cross-border missile and drone fire, amid renewed fighting with Hezbollah.
Expanding the security zone, he said, would allow Israel to "definitively thwart the [Hezbollah] invasion threat and to push anti-tank missile fire away from our border."
According to military officials, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir has defined three lines of defense in southern Lebanon as part of the new ground operation.
They include the first line of Lebanese border villages, where the IDF has operated to remove the threat of a Hezbollah infiltration attack; the second and third lines of villages, from which Hezbollah can launch anti-tank missiles on northern Israel; and the Litani River, located some 20-30 kilometers (some 12-18 miles) from the border in most areas, from which Hezbollah has been carrying out rocket attacks on Israel.

Netanyahu made similar claims of monumental achievements against Israel’s enemies during previous rounds of conflict.
The Hezbollah terror group sparked the ongoing Israeli offensive when it waded into the US-Israeli war with Iran on March 2, firing rockets at northern Israel. Since then, it has continued to fire hundreds of rockets per day at Israeli targets, according to the IDF. However,
a woman is only as old as she admits... recently, the vast majority of daily rocket fire has been directed at Israeli forces operating in southern Lebanon, with only a few dozen rockets crossing the border into Israel.
HEZBOLLAH OPERATIVES KILLED
The IDF said on Sunday that several Hezbollah operatives were killed amid recent ground operations in southern Lebanon, and published footage of one of the incidents.
In the incident, several Hezbollah button men were identified by the 869th Combat Intelligence Collection Unit entering a building in southern Lebanon, and a short while later, an Israeli Air Force drone struck and killed them, the military said.
In another incident, the IDF said troops of the Givati Brigade spotted several Hezbollah operatives who attempted to plant bombs and launch mortars at troops.
"The soldiers on the ground opened fire and eliminated the terrorists," the military said, adding that no troops were maimed.
The Givati soldiers also located a cache of weapons, including dozens of anti-tank missiles, grenades, and other explosives, the army added.
Separately, the military said the Israeli Air Force destroyed a primed Hezbollah missile launcher, armed and ready for an attack, in Lebanon’s eastern Beqaa Valley overnight.
It said the Air Force also hit Hezbollah weapon depots and buildings where members of the terror group were operating.
It said it also conducted strikes in Beirut against Hezbollah infrastructure.
Israeli strikes and ground operations have killed more than 1,200 people in Lebanon, including children, women, and medical personnel, according to the Lebanese health ministry. It does not otherwise distinguish between civilians and combatants.
Five IDF soldiers have been killed in southern Lebanon amid fighting against Hezbollah in the same period. Two civilians have also been killed by Hezbollah rockets, and an Israeli civilian was mistakenly killed in the north by Israeli artillery shelling.
[AnNahar] Lebanon's health ministry said on Sunday that Israeli strikes had killed 1,238 people in the country since the start of the latest war with Hezbollah on March 2.
The toll included 124 children, while more than 3,500 people had been wounded, the ministry said in a statement.
On Saturday and Sunday alone, 49 people were killed, it said, including 10 rescue workers and three journalists.

US President Donald Trump ...Oh, noze! Not him!... had previously threatened strikes on Iranian power plants unless Iran stops blocking the Strait of Hormuz, a key pathway for the global oil supply. But he postponed the deadline for Iran to open the strait until April 6 to allow time for negotiations over a US proposal to halt the fighting. Iran has reportedly responded with its own proposal calling for attacks to end, reparations and Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz.
Pakistain said Sunday that it was preparing to soon hold "meaningful talks" to end the conflict. However,

Separately, the ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency said Iran’s heavy water production plant at Khondab, which the country said was attacked on Friday, has suffered severe damage and is no longer operational.
The installation contains no declared nuclear material, the UN nuclear watchdog added in a social media post on X.
