[MilitantWire] The recent resurgence of fighting in northern Mozambique is once again triggering alarms among observers. Attempts to resolve the violence are threatened by politics from elsewhere in Africa.
Data recently released by ACLED’s Mozambique Conflict Monitor for the first two weeks of March 2026 paint a somewhat bleak picture for the region. During the period covered, there were at least five incidents of political violence documented in the country. These resulted in the deaths of around 30 people, with at least two of the fatalities being civilians. The Islamic State Mozambique (ISM) was found to have been behind four additional events across Mozambique.
The numbers for the length of the insurgency may show why the interest in the country appears to be lackluster, to place it mildly. Since October 1, 2017, there have been a total of 2,338 acts of violence in Cabo Delgado. A total of 6,498 fatalities have occurred, with 2,721 of the deaths being civilians. ISM has launched 2,168 recorded attacks across the rest of the country. The situation in northern Mozambique is drawing some interest now in Washington.

British police said on Wednesday they had arrested two men over an arson attack on four ambulances belonging to a Jewish community organization in north London.
The arrests came after police said they were investigating an online claim of responsibility by a little-known Islamist group that has possible links to Iran.
The ambulances were set on fire early Monday while they were parked next to a synagogue in Golders Green, an area of London with a large Jewish population.
The Metropolitan Police said two men aged 47 and 45 were arrested by counter-terrorism detectives "on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life."
The men were arrested at addresses in central and northwestern London where officers were carrying out searches, police said.
The Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya (HAYI) group, meaning The Islamic Movement of the People of the Right Hand, claimed Monday’s attack in a Telegram post, after saying it was also responsible for similar attacks in Belgium and the Netherlands.
Two minors were arrested in Belgium on Tuesday on suspicion of involvement in a terrorist organization after a car was set on fire in Antwerp’s Jewish quarter, also claimed by HAYI.
The SITE monitoring service said the group is aligned with Iran.

Prosecutors charged a 14-year-old boy with espionage on Wednesday after he allegedly carried out missions on Iran’s behalf, including filming the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv.
Over the past two years, dozens of Israelis have been charged with spying for Iran. In many of the cases, Iranian agents recruited Israelis via social media, specifically through Telegram.
The minor, a resident of central Israel, was charged in the Tel Aviv Juvenile Court with maintaining contact with a foreign agent and passing intelligence to the enemy, among other offenses.
According to the State Attorney’s Office, the teenager contacted the Iranian agent via a Telegram account in April 2025 in response to a message about a job he was interested in. The minor agreed to carry out the tasks for payment in cryptocurrencies that would be transferred to a digital wallet.
The minor opened four digital wallets, to which the agent transferred a total of over $1,170.
According to the charge sheet, the defendant took videos near Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center-Ichilov and in Ramat Gan, where an elderly couple was recently killed in an Iranian missile strike.
Additionally, he captured the location of the Kirya military headquarters in a video depicting Tel Aviv’s skyline.
The minor is also accused of posting graffiti messages across Tel Aviv, including one that read, "We are committed to the covenant."
According to prosecutors, the teen was also asked to spy on Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar as he went about his day and to vandalize his home with the message, "We will take Dire Revenge in turn! Ruhollah’s children," an apparent reference to Iran’s first supreme leader Ruhollah Khomeini. The defendant told his Iranian contact that he couldn’t carry out the mission during the school year, and that it would have to wait until a vacation.
Prosecutors added that the Iranian agent even enlisted the 14-year-old to rent an apartment near IDF headquarters. Although the teen allegedly spoke with several landlords about renting in the area and sent the agent a photo of an apartment, he never secured one.
After being questioned, the minor tried to get a classmate to lie during an interrogation and say he was the one who had transferred him most of the money seized in his digital wallets, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors didn’t specify when the alleged offenses took place.

Some of the missiles fired in the attack were likely intercepted by air defenses, according to the initial military assessments. Rescue forces responded to reports of missile fragments in several areas following the interceptions.

Hitting a well-protected, moving sea target over the horizon seems like a stretch. Maybe they can sink the Lincoln with a missile strike from their inflatable stealth fighter.

During overnight airstrikes in Lebanon, the Israeli Air Force struck a Hezbollah command center in Beirut and gas stations owned by the terror group, the military said.
The Hezbollah headquarters in Beirut’s southern suburbs was targeted following fresh evacuation warnings for the area.

In another incident, a Hezbollah weapons depot was destroyed by troops of the 7th Armored Brigade. A short while later, the military said several Hezbollah operatives fled the site and were targeted and killed in airstrikes.
Troops of the Golani Brigade, meanwhile, killed an operative armed with an RPG and an assault rifle, who approached their area of operations, the army said.
Also on Wednesday, the IDF announced that a commander in a Hezbollah-allied militia was captured by Israeli troops during an overnight raid on the Lebanese side of Mount Dov.
The military said troops of the Egoz commando unit captured a cell commander from the Lebanese Resistance® Companies during the raid on Tuesday night. He was taken to Israel to be questioned by the Military Intelligence Directorate’s Unit 504, which specializes in human intelligence.
The Lebanese Resistance® Companies is funded by Hezbollah and its members have taken direct part in attacks on Israeli troops, the military added.
Since hostilities escalated amid the war with Iran, around 700 Hezbollah operatives, including hundreds of members of the terror group’s elite Radwan Force, have been killed, the IDF said Wednesday.
Lebanon’s health ministry has said Israeli attacks have killed more than 1,000 people since the war began.
