[ABCnews] A student who was required to be patted down at the start of each school day allegedly shot and wounded two school administrators at East High School in Denver, authorities said.
The suspect, Austin Lyle, 17, fled the school after the Wednesday morning shooting, Denver police said. His body was discovered in nearby Park County on Wednesday night after an hours-long manhunt, officials said.
"We're going to connect with the parents of Austin this evening," Denver Public Schools Superintendent Alex Marrero told reporters during a press briefing Thursday afternoon. "I can acknowledge that we failed Austin as a district."
Lyle allegedly shot the school administrators as they patted him down in the school's office area, which officials said is away from other students and staff.
The injured faculty members were both hospitalized. Eric Sinclair remains in serious condition and Jerald Mason has since been released from the hospital, according to the hospital and school district.
The suspect's daily searches were part of a "safety plan" that was a result of "previous behavior," officials said at a Wednesday news conference.
Marrero said that the school had a "regular routine" with the student, but on the day of the shooting the administrator who typically engaged with the student was not available and two different staffers were involved in the pat-down.
Last year Lyle was expelled from Overland High School in Aurora for allegedly violating school policy, a spokesperson for the Cherry Creek School District told ABC News.
Law enforcement sources told ABC News that in 2021 Lyle was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon.
It is unclear if that is the same incident that led to his dismissal from Overland High School, but sources told ABC News that school leadership described Lyle to police as "potentially violent" and a "threat to the safety of the school" after a series of events in the 2021-2022 school year, including bringing a weapon to Overland High School prior to his dismissal.
This year at East High School, Lyle appeared to be a "loner" who didn't seem to have friends, according to two East High School students who did not want to be named

Our public "schools" are run by some of the stupidest people in the land.

"I can acknowledge that we failed Austin as a district."
The district failed the families of the two hospitalized employees that will now suffer from PTSD.

If he was required to be "patted down" in an obvious search for weapons, why was he going to school instead of being in juvie or released to his parents for a private institutional alternative?

Board members cited equity issues as the reason behind the move. “To ensure that our schools were no longer the epicenter or ground zero for the school-to-prison pipeline,” Denver School Board Vice President Auon'tai Anderson said during a news conference on June 5, 2020, a few days before the final decision.
Bad decision by Auon'tai' ... unbelievable, they had SROs and then removed them. Auon'tai' needs to be held responsible.
[NY Post] Memphis women’s basketball star Jamirah Shutes has been charged with assault after appearing to punch a Bowling Green player in the handshake line Thursday night. Can we please put to bed the tired old saw about "sports builds character?"
Bowling Green released a statement to Ohio CBS affiliate WTOL saying that Shutes has been criminally charged.
Shutes, a senior guard on Memphis, made second-team All-AAC this season.
In the handshake line after Bowling Green defeated Memphis 73-60 in the NIT’s Round of 16 on Thursday night, Shutes stopped to exchange words with Bowling Green guard Elissa Brett and appeared to throw a punch.

[TOLONEWS] A magnitude 6.5 earthquake rattled much of Pakistain and Afghanistan on Tuesday, sending panicked residents fleeing from homes and offices and frightening people in remote villages. At least nine people died in Pakistain and two in Afghanistan, officials said Wednesday Happy Ramadan!
More than 200 people were brought to hospitals in the Swat ...a valley and an administrative district in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistain, located 99 mi from Islamabad. It is inhabited mostly by Pashto speakers. The place has gone steadily downhill since the days when Babe Ruth was the Sultan of Swat... valley and elsewhere in the region of Pakistain’s northwestern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province in a state of shock, Bilal Faizi, a front man for Pakistain’s emergency services told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.
"These terrified people collapsed, and some of them collapsed because of the shock of the earthquake," he said. Faizi said most were later discharged from the hospital.
Faizi and other officials said nine people were killed when roofs collapsed in various parts of northwestern Pakistain. Dozens of others were maimed in the quake, which was centered in Afghanistan and also felt in bordering Tajikistan. The earthquake triggered landslides in some of the mountainous areas, disrupting traffic.
The nine people who died in northwest Pakistain included five men, two women and two children.
Taimoor Khan, a front man for the provincial disaster management authority in the northwest, said at least 19 mudbrick homes collapsed in remote areas. "We are still collecting data about the damages," he said. On Wednesday
The powerful tremors sent many people fleeing their homes and offices in Pakistain’s capital of Islamabad, some reciting verses from the Koran, Islam’s holy book. Media reports suggested cracks had appeared in some apartment buildings in the city.
In Afghanistan, Sharafat Zaman Amar, Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... ’s appointed front man for the public health ministry said, so far at least two people died and around 20 others were maimed in the earthquake in Afghanistan.
Zaman Amar said "Unfortunately, there could be more casualties as the quake was so powerful, in most parts of the country" all hospitals and health facilities are ready to save lives of people, he added.
The scene was repeated in Kabul and other parts of Afghanistan.
"The quake was so strong and terrifying, we thought houses are collapsing on us, people were all shouting and were shocked," said Shafiullah Azimi, a Kabul resident.
Aziz Ahmad, 45, another Kabul resident, said "In my life this was first time I have experienced such powerful quake, everyone was terrified," He added he and all his neighbors stayed out of their homes for hours, afraid of aftershocks. "We couldn’t dare to get back homes."
The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter of the magnitude 6.5 quake was 40 kilometers (25 miles) south-southeast of Jurm in Afghanistan’s mountainous Hindukush region, bordering Pakistain and Tajikistan. The quake struck 188 kilometers (116 miles) deep below the Earth’s surface, causing it to felt over a wide area.

The USSR formed work camps and projected their great financial benefit. They lost money every year. I would like to see a Congressional report on if these camps are making a profit. If they are, then how and exactly who is involved. This would be in preparation to sanction American or international companies involved. This effort would be resisted by the most evil interests in our country. It would be fun.

[The Nation (Pak)] North Korea ...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche... has tested an underwater nuclear attack drone designed to unleash a "radioactive tsunami" that would destroy enemy naval vessels and ports, state media said Friday.
During the drills from Tuesday through Thursday the North Korean military deployed and testfired this new weapon system, the mission of which is to make the "super-scale" destructive wave, the KCNA news agency said.
"This nuclear underwater attack drone can be deployed at any coast and port or towed by a surface ship for operation," KCNA said.
The "secret weapon" was put in the water off South Hamgyon province Tuesday, and on Thursday it detonated a test warhead, the agency said.
Up to that point it had cruised for 59 hours and 12 minutes at a depth of 80 to 150 meters, the agency reported.
The North’s Central Military Commission of the Worker’s Party commanded the drills "in order to alert the enemy to an actual nuclear crisis and verify the reliability of the nuclear force for self-defence."
After a record-breaking year of weapons tests and growing nuclear threats from Pyongyang, Seoul and Washington have ramped up security cooperation, and on March 13 kicked off their largest joint military drills in five years, known as Freedom Shield.
KCNA said that on Wednesday the North conducted fired strategic cruise missiles "tipped with a test warhead simulating a nuclear warhead."

[Breitbart] TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew admitted to Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks that the Chinese app tracks users’ keystrokes during a House Committee on Energy and Commerce hearing on Thursday.
“Does TikTok track users’ individual keystrokes?” Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) asked, to which Chew responded by stating, “Only for security purposes, for example, like detecting bots.”
After Miller-Meeks asked Chew to clarify that “the only purpose that you would monitor keystrokes is for security purposes,” the TikTok CEO said, “I can get back to you on the specifics,” and then deflected, by saying other companies behave in a similar way.
In a recent interview with GMA3: What You Need to Know, former Trump official Keith Krach warned that TikTok is able to track users’ keystrokes.
“That means they have access to your passwords, all your data, they have access to your health records, your bank records, they have access to your geopolitical information or your geospatial information,” Krach said. “That means that they can track where you are, where you’ve been, and where you’re going.”
“Look at it as a digital virus,” he added. “And the only cure for this; the only vaccine for this is a total ban.”
Some might agree with Chew’s suggestion that U.S. social media companies engage in the same behavior as TikTok, but the difference is that U.S. companies can be held responsible under U.S. laws, whether that takes the form of action by Congress or regulators, whereas the same is not possible with TikTok.
Elsewhere during Thursday’s hearing, Chew said “I don’t think that ‘spying’ is the right way to describe” the alleged Chinese surveillance of Americans using his company’s social media platform. "It's more like an unannounced monitor to help you make sure you do things correctly."

Yes, yes. We had to close down the3 American economy, mask-up (though masks don't work), stand six feet apart and stay out of gyms and off the beach.
But banning this spyware is a step too far.

Anyone remember from a mere few years ago the Lenovo computers (made in China, natch) whose BIOS chips also captured keystrokes? The most charitable way I'll describe Democrats or anyone else bitching about this is stunning naivete.

In Michigan, TikTok has been banned on state government devices, but the Mitten Queen, Governor Whitmer, will maintain her TikTok account due to a sizable social media following. A security risk for government employees, but no problemo encouraging the proletariate to use it.

There is and has been an awful lot more gold and in fact all precious metals sold whether on paper on physical than has been mined in all of human history.
[Breitbart] Only seven of the thirty members of the NATO military alliance met the 2 per cent of GDP military spending minimum of the alliance in 2022 according to official figures.
NATO head Jens Stoltenberg commented on the annual report, calling for NATO members to increase their military spending to the agreed-upon targets as fewer countries met the pending goals in 2022 than in 2021.
“…because GDP has increased more than expected for a couple of allies, two allies that we expected to be at 2% per cent are now slightly below 2 per cent,” Stoltenberg told a news conference in Brussels, the newspaper Ekathimerini reports.
According to the annual report, only Greece, the United States, Poland, the United Kingdom, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania met the two per cent of GDP spending goal.
Of the seven, four are new members in Eastern Europe.
Stoltenberg added that NATO was “in the process of agreeing to new capability targets for the production of battle-decisive ammunition and engaging with industry to ramp up production — to support Ukraine against Russia’s aggression and for our own defence.”
NATO members have sent a vast amount of military support to Ukraine since the start of the war last year and Stoltenberg admitted in February that Ukraine was using up ammunition faster than NATO could provide it.
Just weeks later, German Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius admitted that the German armed forces were in such a state that they would be unable to repel a serious offensive. “We have no armed forces that are capable of defence, i.e. capable of defending against an offensive brutally conducted war of aggression,” he said.
A deliberate choice made despite regular promises that this time Germany really will meet the spending they commit to every year.

I think Greece may have a negative GDP so it was not hard for them. The accounting probably includes retirement spending, green initiatives and DEI stuff. The Ukraine war donations are an additional scam. Overall, it is high time to kick the basement dwelling kids out of the house. Drop NATO and make some bilateral agreements with countries where we have common interests.
