[ZeroHedge] A federal judge has sentenced four individuals to more than 14 years in federal prison for running a $12.7 Million “Minnesota-Somali-style fraud” scheme in North Carolina that paid more than $1 Million in kickbacks to drug addicted patients.
The fraudsters, Brandon Eugene Sims, 40; Kimberly Mable Sims, 39; Francine Sims Super, 64; and Keke Komeko Johnson, 53, operated Life Touch, LLC, a now permanently shut down fake substance abuse facility and 1st Choice Healthcare Services, a urine drug screening company.
Between 2018 and 2023, Johnson and Super reportedly oversaw more than $1 million in illegal kickback payments to drug using Medicaid patients.
The kickbacks were meant “to lure patients to show up for costly substance abuse and lab services that Johnson billed to Medicaid on behalf of Life Touch and 1st Choice,” the Eastern North Carolina U.S. Attorney’s Office stated in a press release.
Inmate Sims, Inmate Super’s daughter, owned 1st Choice Healthcare, and paid Medicaid kickbacks to Inmates Super and Johnson for fake lab services ordered by Life Touch, LLC. Meanwhile, Inmate Brandon Sims, who owned Life Touch and resided in Texas, received Millions in illegal proceeds from the Life Touch operation, but failed to file or pay taxes on that money. The gift card kickback scheme resulted in more than $12.7 Million fake billings to the Medicaid program.
The feds seized $6 million in assets from them in 2023, including cash, cars and homes. After becoming aware of the criminal investigation, Brandon Sims “withdrew more than $1 Million in cash from a bank account, hiding it in a safe at his Texas home.”
[Just The News] More than 50 Minnesota K—12 school districts have adopted a policy that allows taxpayer funds to support certain race-based programs, including financial incentives for teachers of color.
"Policy 425 — Staff Development and Mentoring" states that funds may be used to provide "financial incentives for teachers of color and teachers who are American Indian." Districts that adopt the policy may also offer "additional stipends as incentives" and other race-focused professional development programming.
According to a report by Defending Education of more than 100 school districts, at least 50 districts in the state have adopted these policies. Another 57 districts appear not to have adopted the policy or do not include the race-based provisions.
The program’s stated purpose is to establish a structure to support improved student learning.
The policy also addresses teacher retention strategies. If a "school district receives a grant for any of the above purposes, it will negotiate additional retention strategies or protection from unrequested leave of absences in the beginning years of employment for teachers of color and teachers who are American Indian," the policy states.
Some strategies the policies include are providing financial incentives for teachers of color to work in the school or district for at least five years. It also suggests placing American Indian educators at schools with other American Indian educators and placing educators of color at sites with other educators of color "to reduce isolation and increase opportunity for collegial support."
Rhyen Staley, director of research at Defending Education, criticized the policies.
"These policies reflect a deeply entrenched far-left ideology throughout the entire Minnesota education system that flies in the face of longstanding jurisprudence and the historic sacrifices Civil Rights leaders and supporters have made over decades," Staley said. "These policies and practices are immoral and anti-American and must be stopped."

A driver has smashed into a White House gate, triggering road closures around the complex in Washington DC just after 6.30am Wednesday.
The driver of the van was detained and is being questioned by US Secret Service.

The horror unfolded in the town of Kerzers in western Switzerland at around 6.25pm on Tuesday when a coach carrying passengers suddenly caught fire.
Eyewitnesses alleged a man set himself alight inside the vehicle moments before the blaze erupted, although police have not confirmed these claims.
Videos shared on social media show flames several metres high rapidly engulfing the bus, which belonged to the postal service.
Separate images from after the incident show the vehicle having been completely gutted by the inferno.
In one clip obtained by local media, an eyewitness is asked what happened. 'A man set himself on fire inside,' he replies in Albanian.
'He poured gasoline and set himself on fire!'
Police have said they are treating the fire as 'man made' but have so far refused to disclose whether it is terror related.
Three of the five injured people were taken to the hospital, while the other two were treated at the scene.
It remains unclear whether the suspect is among the dead or the wounded.

[Federalist] Americans are divided on abortion, but even abortion supporters should want abortion to be safe — at least for the woman. Unfortunately, our new research shows that the chemical abortion drug mifepristone became significantly more dangerous to women after the Biden administration watered down safety rules in an effort to appease pro-abortion advocates.
We recently analyzed the data on mifepristone’s serious adverse events, looking before and after Biden’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) removed a longstanding requirement for a woman to see a medical professional in person before chemical abortion could be prescribed or dispensed. What we found is not surprising: Removing a doctor from the process makes things worse for women. Indeed, the rate of serious adverse events was significantly higher after the FDA’s in-person dispensing requirement was removed, especially as mifepristone was inappropriately prescribed for women with an ectopic pregnancy, a life-threatening condition that can be diagnosed by a physician only through an in-person visit.
From the time the Clinton FDA approved mifepristone until just about five years ago, the FDA required that a woman see a medical professional in person before chemical abortion could be prescribed or dispensed. The in-person visit was essential to determine the age of the unborn child, rule out an ectopic pregnancy, and ensure the woman was not being coerced into the abortion.
Nevertheless, the Biden FDA used Covid as an excuse to eliminate the required in-person visit, and women have paid the price.
After all, without requiring an in-person doctor visit, anyone can go online and get mail-order abortion pills. There is no way to ensure the unborn baby hasn’t grown so large that chemical abortion is unsafe for the mother, no way to ensure the unborn baby isn’t implanted outside the uterus where using chemical abortion drugs could prove deadly to the mother, and no way to ensure it’s the mother who is voluntarily requesting the chemical abortion drugs and not a boyfriend seeking the pills to secretly and coercively poison her.
Tragically, since the in-person requirement was lifted, we have seen countless instances where women were coercively poisoned to kill their unborn babies by boyfriends who ordered chemical abortion drugs online and slipped them into their drinks. It has become an unregulated free-for-all where no woman is truly protected. But it’s not just coercion that has documented instances; now we can show that removing the in-person doctor visit requirement has increased general health risks, and the misuse of chemical abortion in the case of ectopic pregnancy in particular.
