[FoxNews] Two suspects arrested after Daniel Lurie's security detail injured in Tenderloin confrontation
A tense encounter turned violent in San Francisco’s troubled Tenderloin neighborhood Thursday evening when Mayor Daniel Lurie’s vehicle was blocked by several men, sparking an attack that left at least one security officer injured.
The confrontation unfolded around 5:40 p.m. near Cedar and Polk streets, according to the San Francisco Police Department. Officers assigned to the mayor’s protective detail became engaged in a physical altercation with two unidentified male suspects after the mayor’s vehicle was stopped in the roadway.
Video from the scene shows a security detail member being taken to the ground as officers worked to subdue the suspects. One officer sustained visible injuries during the altercation.
The mayor was not harmed.
As the investigation progressed, police said they developed probable cause to arrest both men. Authorities identified the suspects as 44-year-old Tony Phillips and 33-year-old Abraham Simon. Both were transported to San Francisco County Jail and booked.
Phillips faces multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, resisting an executive officer, resisting or obstructing an officer, battery on a peace officer, theft of lost property, possession of drug paraphernalia and contempt of court.
Simon was booked on suspicion of resisting or obstructing an officer and on an active out-of-county warrant for being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Authorities have not said what led to the confrontation or whether the suspects directly threatened the mayor.
Two officers also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were assessed by paramedics at the scene, according to police.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Mayor Lurie’s press secretary Charles Lutvak said: "There was an altercation this evening involving the mayor’s security detail. The mayor was not involved. We appreciate our SFPD officers for their quick response and for keeping our city safe every day."
Photos published by Mission Local appear to show one suspect on the ground in handcuffs surrounded by officers. The outlet reported that three individuals initially blocked the mayor’s vehicle. Lurie allegedly asked them to move. While one person initially complied, that individual later became involved in a physical struggle with a member of the mayor’s security detail.
Louis Wong, president of the San Francisco Police Officers Association, confirmed that one union member was injured and praised the response of officers.
"The San Francisco Police Officers Association is relieved to hear that Mayor Daniel Lurie was not injured in the violent incident that occurred Thursday evening in the Tenderloin," Wong said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "We are grateful that the officers assigned to the mayor’s security detail acted swiftly and courageously to protect him in a dangerous and unpredictable situation."
Wong added that additional SFPD officers quickly arrived on scene to assist and bring the situation under control, commending their professionalism and commitment to protecting the public and the officials they are sworn to safeguard. He said the union is wishing the injured officer a full and speedy recovery.
The clash came just hours after Lurie posted a message and video on Facebook calling for a sweeping reset of San Francisco’s government structure.
"San Francisco needs a reset. Our city charter is one of the longest in the country. It is bloated. It is broken," Lurie wrote, announcing proposed reforms aimed at consolidating the city’s contracting system, shortening and simplifying ballots and increasing executive accountability.
"This package of reforms is about results. It’s about accountability. It’s about making City Hall work for San Francisco," he wrote.

I understand it's not the mayor's job to get involved in physical altercations. I understand that he might have felt that it was the job of his security guard to deal with whack jobs so that he can walk safely away. But if I saw the whack job getting the best of my guard while they were rolling on the pavement, I'm pretty sure I would have tried to help my guard.

Former President Joe Biden told mourners at Rev. Jesse Jackson’s memorial service Friday that he is "a hell of a lot smarter than most of you," a pointed remark that stood out during his tribute to the late civil rights leader.
Biden made the comment while recounting how he was mocked as a child for his stutter and how speech impediments are often mistaken for a lack of intelligence.
"If I told you I had a cleft palate or clubfoot, none of you would have laughed," Biden said.
"But it’s OK to laugh at stuttering. ... It’s the one place where people think you’re stupid.
"Oh, really? I’m a hell of a lot smarter than most of you," he added, before quickly pivoting back to his broader point.
"But all kidding aside, it makes you feel really small."
Biden made the remark during a memorial service in Chicago that brought together prominent Democratic leaders and civil rights figures to honor Jackson’s decades-long political influence.
Former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton attended the service along with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Vice President Kamala Harris and Rev. Al Sharpton.
The event was held at the 10,000-seat House of Hope arena, where hundreds gathered to celebrate Jackson’s life and legacy.
Jackson, who died at age 84, rose to prominence as a close associate of Martin Luther King Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement.

"So I think we were trying to make the maps more gay," Rogers responded.
"Literally?" Mast asked.
"Well, I don't know," Rogers said.
"How do you make a map more gay? Or gay at all?" Mast asked.
"You know, since the age of cartography, we've had pretty good maps, but maybe they weren't gay enough. So, I know — also, I took critical theory in college. I think sometimes people use 'queer' as a verb. I do understand that the maps that we were trying to make gay were, I think, of Czechia and Slovakia, so maybe those countries asked for it. I doubt it, but I don't know," Rogers said.
"We do have real things to work on in Congress, like what's going on with the imminent threat of Iran, and it is embarrassing that we have to talk about the fact that things like this were funded — nonbinary and trans francophones, linguistic attitudes and ideologies towards inclusive French in Montreal, Canada — these things," Mast said.
"I'm going to give you a list of these, and any of these that you can provide me the receipt for — the Facebook link to where they wanted to take photos of how they were doing a DEIA flash mob in 'Karigastan' — you know, whatever documentation they have of all of these things, we would love to see that. And would absolutely love to know the individuals specifically that were busy writing these grants, because they have no business receiving another paycheck from the people of the United States of America," Mast added.

[BREITBART] Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales has exited his reelection runoff after an affair scandal with a former aide embroiled his campaign.
Gonzales released a short statement announcing his decision to withdraw without acknowledging the affair with a former staffer, who later committed suicide.
''At 18, I swore an oath to defend our nation against all enemies, foreign and domestic. During my 20 years in the military and three terms in Congress, I have fought for that cause with absolute dedication to the country that I love,'' he said.
After saying he ''always fought for the greater good,'' citing his commitment to border security and his work after the school shooting in Uvalde, Gonzales said that he decided to withdraw after ''deep reflection.''
''After deep reflection and with the support of my loving family, I have decided not to seek re-election while serving out the rest of this Congress with the same commitment I've always had to my district. Through the rest of my term, I will continue fighting for my constituents, for whom I am eternally grateful,'' he concluded.

So let me get this straight..
Everyone who knows things, knew the staffer set herself on fire in an affair/suicide.
Those people only let the public know that a staffer died, somehow, in a fire.
So with that knowledge, Gonzo was running anyways, and therefore would either:
A: have the story come out during the primary, potentially knocking him out then and handing the seat to the democrat candidate.
B: continue to pay off the people who know things to get him past the election finish line, and incurring a mountain debt of favors to the people who know things.
