[JustTheNews] The FBI says the agency has identified and addressed "suspicious activities" on the bureau's networks.
"The FBI identified and addressed suspicious activities on FBI networks, and we have leveraged all technical capabilities to respond. We have nothing additional to provide," the bureau said in a statement on Thursday, CBS News reported.
Unnamed sources told the news outlet that the networks that were targeted in the cyber incident are known as the "digital collection system."
Freedom of Information Act records obtained by the Electronic Frontier Foundation decades ago described the FBI's "Digital Collection Systems Network" as a suite of software that the bureau uses to conduct a wide range of surveillance activities, including wiretaps.
Details regarding when the "suspicious activities" occurred, the suspect behind it, or whether any information was compromised have not been released.
