[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] An armed man was shot and killed by the Secret Service in the early hours of the morning after unlawfully entering the secure perimeter at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
The man, in his early 20s, was holding what appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel can as he tried to enter Trump's Palm Beach residence, the Secret Service said.
He was neutralized by a deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office around 1.30am on Sunday.
The deceased man's identity has not been released.
President Trump had been attending the Governors Dinner in Washington DC on Saturday night.
It's understood that Trump stayed in the capital overnight and was not in Florida when the armed suspect approached Mar-a-Lago.
'There were no Secret Service protectees present at the location at the time of the incident,' the agency said.

Austin Tucker Martin, 21, of Cameron, North Carolina, was killed by law enforcement in the early hours of Sunday morning, law enforcement sources told The Post.
He was reported missing by his family to authorities on Saturday.
Officials are still investigating whether he bought the gun en route to Florida.
According to his social media, his family was frantically looking for him after he disappeared on Saturday night.
Tucker Martin’s social media shows that he was obsessed with drawing scenes from the golf courses in the Sandhills region — which includes the famed Pinehurst.

In a statement, Islamabad described the strikes as "retaliatory," carried out in response to recent suicide and car kabooms on a Shi’ite mosque in Islamabad and in Bajaur and Bannu during Ramadan. Both TTP and Islamic State Khorasan grabbed credit for those attacks.
The ministry alleged that the hard boy groups operate from Afghanistan territory and that recent attacks inside Pakistain were conducted under the direction of leadership based in Afghanistan. It said repeated requests to the Taliban to act against these groups had not produced "decisive action."

Taliban officials accused Pak generals of trying to compensate for security failures at home by carrying out cross-border attacks on Afghanistan soil.
Local residents in eastern Afghanistan told media outlets that Pak aircraft struck Khogyani, Ghani Khil and Behsud districts of Nangarhar, as well as Barmal district of Paktika. Some residents reported damage to homes and a religious school.

Violent clashes erupted in parts of western Mexico on Sunday amid a military operation that led to the death of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel leader, triggering widespread security concerns throughout the region.
Mexican security forces killed Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, also known as "El Mencho," during an operation in the western state of Jalisco, Mexico's Ministry of Defense said in a statement on X. It said he was wounded during the raid in the town of Tapalpa and died while being flown to Mexico City.
The state of Jalisco is the base of the cartel known for trafficking huge quantities of fentanyl and other drugs to the United States.
U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, who also confirmed the cartel leader's death, described him as "one of the bloodiest and most ruthless drug kingpins."
"This is a great development for Mexico, the US, Latin America, and the world. The good guys are stronger than the bad guys," he said on X.
A U.S. defense official told CBS News that the U.S. military played a role in the operation via the Joint Interagency Task Force-Counter Cartel, which regularly works with the Mexican military through the U.S. Northern Command. The official emphasized that "this was a Mexican military operation, so the success is theirs."
Mike Vigil, former DEA Chief of International Operations, told CBS News that the military operation was "one of the most significant actions undertaken in the history of drug trafficking."
"Because we're talking about someone that is almost at the same level as (Joaquin) "El Chapo" Guzman and (Ismael) "El Mayo" Zambada," he added. "(Oseguera Cervantes) is one of the biggest drug capos in the history of drug trafficking around the globe."
During the operation, troops came under fire and killed four people at the location. Three more people, including Oseguera Cervantes, were wounded and later died, the Ministry of Defense's statement said. Two others were arrested and armored vehicles, rocket launchers and other arms were seized. Three members of the armed forces were wounded and are receiving medical treatment.
The killing of the powerful drug lord triggered several hours of roadblocks with burning vehicles in Jalisco and other states. Such tactics are commonly used by the cartels to block military operations.
Videos circulating on social media showed plumes of smoke billowing over the city of Puerto Vallarta, a major city in Jalisco, and sprinting through the airport of the state's capital in panic.
"They are burning buses, they're shutting down roads, not only in Jalisco, but Michoacan, Colima, Tamaulipas, Guanajuato, and then also Aguas Calientes," Vigil said. "And what they're trying to do is show that they are still a force to be reckoned with, that this was not a lethal blow to them.
In Guadalajara, Jalisco's capital and Mexico's second-largest city where the World Cup is scheduled to host matches this summer, burning vehicles blocked roads.
A similar situation unfolded at the airport in Reynosa, a Mexican border city in the state of Tamaulipas, sources on the ground and family members in the city told CBS News' Nidia Cavazos. They said roads to and from the airport had been blocked off by cartel members. Reynosa borders McAllen, Texas, and is typically packed with Americans traveling back and forth. While international bridges remained open, key streets to get to the bridges were blocked off.
The U.S. State Department has released a security alert advising American citizens in several Mexican states, including Jalisco, Tamaulipas, Michoacan, Guerrero and Nuevo Leon, to shelter in place until further notice. The Department of State Consular Affairs, in a message telling U.S. citizens to continue sheltering in place, said on social media that taxi and rideshare service had been suspended in Puerto Vallarta.
Air Canada temporarily suspended operations at the Puerto Vallarta Airport because of what it described as "an ongoing security situation in Puerto Vallarta" that impacted the airport.
The Jalisco New Generation Cartel, known as CJNG, is one of the most powerful and fastest-growing criminal organizations in Mexico. Oseguera Cervantes, 59, was originally from Aguililla in the neighboring state of Michoacán. He had been significantly involved in drug trafficking activities since the 1990s. He helped co-found the Jalisco New Generation Cartel with Érick Valencia Salazar, alias "El 85," around 2007.
Valencia Salazar was among 29 wanted cartel leaders taken into U.S. custody last February, according to the Justice Department.
The Jalisco cartel has been one of the most aggressive cartels in its attacks on the military — including on helicopters — and is a pioneer in launching explosives from drones and installing mines. In 2020, it carried out a spectacular assassination attempt with grenades and high-powered rifles in the heart of Mexico City against the then head of the capital's police force and now federal security secretary.
The DEA considers the cartel to be as powerful as the Sinaloa cartel, one of Mexico's most infamous criminal groups, with a presence in all 50 U.S. states.
Since 2017, Oseguera Cervantes has been indicted several times in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. The U.S. State Department had offered a reward of up to $15 million for information leading to the arrest of El Mencho.

[Breitbart] A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Aircraft Operations Division drone pilot detected three illegal immigrants moments after they crossed the Rio Grande early Thursday, guiding troopers and Border Patrol agents to the group. The female migrant was found wearing six colored wristbands on each wrist — a cartel method for tagging migrants by payment level and assigned crossing point — as she traveled with a three‑year‑old child.
DPS spokesman, Lt. Chris Olivarez, posted a video on social media showing imagery from an Aircraft Operations Division drone that shows a group of migrants forming up to cross the Rio Grande from Mexico into Texas. Troopers used the drone to guide ground-based troopers and Border Patrol agents to the scene of the illegal border crossing.
The law enforcement team tracked down the illegal aliens and found three people. The arrested included an adult male, an adult female, and a three-year-old child — all were identified as Mexican nationals.
The team observed the mother and child wearing brightly colored wristbands on each wrist. The woman told the team the bands were placed on her and her child’s arms as cartel human smuggling “cargo” markers. The colors indicate how much she has paid and where she is assigned to cross the border.
“This is a common cartel tactic used to mark payment amounts and designated crossing areas between the ports of entry,” Lt. Olivarez explained.
The drone operator and DPS ground teams are assigned to assist Border Patrol agents in securing the border under Governor Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star.
The interception underscores how DPS air assets and ground teams are increasingly central to frontline border enforcement as cartel‑run smuggling networks continue to push migrants — including small children — across dangerous stretches of the Rio Grande. With Operation Lone Star expanding its technological footprint and coordination with federal agents, state officials say these drone‑guided interdictions are becoming a critical tool in exposing cartel control over illegal crossings and preventing vulnerable migrants from being exploited along the border.

A driver rammed a pickup truck into the Brisbane Synagogue in Queensland, Australia, narrowly missing a person, according to footage released Saturday.
The footage shows a Toyota Hilux backing up into the gate of the Queensland state capital’s largest synagogue, while a person on the other side of the gate moves out of the way.
Police located the vehicle a short while later and arrested a 32-year-old man, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.
If they know his age, they know who he is. But they aren’t telling, for some reason.
The suspect was charged with willful damage, serious vilification or hate crime, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and drug offenses, according to the ABC report.
Authorities are treating the incident as criminal, and not terror, the broadcaster said. Police believe that the man did not have any intention of entering the synagogue, the report added.
Police released CCTV footage of a Toyota Hilux ramming the synagogue's iron gates, narrowly missing a person walking on the other side.
Australia’s Anti-Defamation League condemned the "violent mostly peaceful vehicle attack" on the synagogue, calling it "a chilling assault on a sacred place of worship and a stark reminder that antisemitism in Australia is escalating beyond words."
"While no one was physically injured, the deliberate targeting of a house of worship has sent shockwaves through the Jewish community and reinforced the urgent need for decisive action against hate-fueled violence," it said.

House Ed Committee questions mayor who didn’t send police to Northwestern encampment
[CollegeFix] U.S. House Committee on Education and Workforce Chairman Tim Walberg is investigating antisemitism on Northwestern University’s campus, including accusations that Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss refused to send police backup to a hostile pro-Palestinian encampment for political reasons. Although Biss did not respond to multiple requests for comment from The College Fix, a spokesperson for Walberg said the mayor has been cooperating with the investigation.
The situation centers around events in April 2024 when, following suit with over 100 other campuses nationwide, a group of pro-Palestinian Northwestern students established an encampment on Deering Meadow, which lasted for five days.
In a Jan. 28 letter to Biss, Congressman Walberg described the encampment as “a hotbed of antisemitic harassment and hostility, including multiple alleged assaults and virulently antisemitic signage.”
“I write with grave concern regarding your failure to protect Jewish students at Northwestern University …by refusing to give the university the police support it desperately needed to clear its violent and antisemitic encampment in April 2024,” Walberg wrote.
In a recent report, The Daily Northwestern detailed correspondence between former university President Michael Schill and Northwestern’s Board of Trustees Chair Peter Barris regarding the 2024 encampment and the mayor’s refusal to send police to help.
Beginning April 26, 2024, just one day after the encampment began, Schill contacted Barris stating there were “too few police” to safely remove the encampment, according to the report. To aid in the removal, Schill said he was relying on the Evanston Police Department, with an agreement having been made between the city and the university. That night, however, Mayor Biss contacted President Schill, informing him that police would not be sent, according to the Daily Northwestern.
“’You know, you can sue me if you want,’” Schill said Biss told him during their call, the report states.
Biss is running for Congress as a Democratic candidate in the 2026 election cycle.

Code Pink is an awful organization that is a well funded arm of leftism, so none of this should come as a surprise. The true sadness is how UCLA demonstrated its own hatred for conservatism, dialogue, and Israel by capitulating to a group that is not even composed of students.
The Burkle Center, whose mission is to “promote discussion of international relations, U.S. foreign policy, and complex issues of global cooperation and conflict,” has, in canceling her, acted in direct contradiction to its mission statement. By silencing her voice, they are demonstrating that they are not interested in discussion unless it is in sync with the values of their leadership. Burkle Center Associate Director Margaret Peters made the decision, along with her colleagues (who can all be reached at burkle@international.ucla.edu), not because she is pro-Trump or conservative, but for one simple reason: Bari Weiss is pro-Israel. She understands the Islamic threat to Western civilization, the evils of Hamas, and the dangers of Iran.
The move comes less than two weeks after US President Donald Trump said his administration was seeking $1 billion from Harvard to settle probes into school policies, after a news report that said Trump had dropped his demand for a payment from the Ivy League school.
A Harvard spokesperson said the university is committed to following the law and has been responding to the government’s inquiries in good faith.
“The university will continue to defend itself against these retaliatory actions which have been initiated simply because Harvard refused to surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights in response to unlawful government overreach,” the spokesperson said.
Trump’s administration has been threatening to withhold federal funds from Harvard and several other universities over issues including pro-Palestinian protests against Israel since the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, attack that triggered the Gaza war, campus diversity and transgender policies.
The Justice Department said on Friday in a press release that Harvard had “repeatedly slow-walked the pace of production and refused to produce pertinent data and documents,” including admissions policies and correspondence related to banned diversity, equity and inclusion programs.
In the complaint filed in Boston federal court, Justice Department lawyers said the documents requested will help assess whether Harvard is complying with a 2023 decision by the US Supreme Court which said that race-conscious college admissions programs are unconstitutional.
The Justice Department said it brought the lawsuit “solely to compel Harvard to produce documents relating to any consideration of race in admission” and “does not accuse Harvard of any discriminatory conduct, nor does it seek monetary damages or the revocation of federal funding.”
A judge declared a mistrial Friday in the case of five current and former Stanford University students charged after anti-Israel pro-Palestinian protests in 2024, when they barricaded themselves inside the university president and provost executive offices.
The trial in Santa Clara County was a rare instance of demonstrators facing felony charges from protests over the Israel-Hamas war that roiled campuses across the country. The two sides argued over free speech, lawful dissent and crime during the three-week proceedings.

Demonstrators barricaded themselves inside the offices for several hours on June 5, 2024, the last day of spring classes at the university. Prosecutors said the defendants spray-painted the building, broke windows and furniture, disabled security cameras and splattered a red liquid described as fake blood on items throughout the offices.
Defense attorneys said the protest was protected speech and there was insufficient evidence of an intent to damage the property. They also said the students wore protective gear and barricaded the offices out of fear of being injured by police and campus security.
If convicted, the defendants would have faced up to three years in prison and been obligated to pay restitution of over $300,000.
“This case is about a group of people who destroyed someone else’s property and caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage,” Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen said in a statement. “That is against the law and that is why we will retry the case.”
Authorities initially arrested and charged 12 people in the case, but one pleaded no contest under an agreement that allows some young people to have their cases dismissed and records sealed if they successfully complete probation. He testified for the prosecution, leading to a grand jury indictment of the others in October of the others. Six of those accepted pretrial plea deals or diversion programs, and the remaining five pleaded not guilty and sought a jury trial.
Protests sprung up on campuses across the country following the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, onslaught that started the conflict in Gaza, with students setting up camps and demanding their universities stop doing business with Israel or companies that support its war efforts against Hamas.
About 3,200 people were arrested in 2024 nationwide. While some colleges ended demonstrations by striking deals with students or simply waited them out, others called in police. Most criminal charges were ultimately dismissed.
Neither was a student or employee of the college, Director of Campus Safety Jerry Fayette stated in a message to the campus Wednesday. He did not name the individuals.
“We have gathered sufficient evidence to identify both the individual who used a bullhorn and the audience member who initiated physical contact with them,” Fayette stated.
Both are banned from the college “indefinitely,” he stated. “If they are found to be on Haverford’s campus, their presence will be considered trespassing, and the College will contact local police.”
The college took action after a crowd of masked anti-Israel protesters showed up at a guest talk by The Times of Israel journalist Haviv Rettig Gur on Feb. 1.
Gur’s topic was “Roots, Return & Reality: Jews, Israel, and the myth of settler colonialism.” The college’s Chabad chapter sponsored the event.

[NYPost] A video of students wreaking havoc Wednesday in a Cincinnati Kroger after walking out of school for a purported anti-ICE demonstration has gone viral.
In the video, taken by McAdrian Martin, who was shopping at the time of the incident, students ran through aisles and threw objects at the store’s ceiling.
Martin said they were beer cans and other adult beverages that had been ripped from the shelves.
A security yelled at the students to get out of the store.
"It said, ’F ICE,'" a female patron told Martin in the video, apparently referring to a sign held by one of the protesters. "They just came over here and went to the beer section and threw our beers."
The students walked out of schools in the North College Hill School City School District to protest ICE, part of an ongoing national trend that left-wing activists claim is student-driven.
The school condemned the behavior in a Facebook post, even linking to the now-viral video.
"This video is disturbing and the parents and families of these students should be embarrassed," the post said, adding that the school would be working with the North College Hill Police Department to "identify these students so they can be held accountable for their disorderly behavior."
Craig Chaney, the department’s interim police chief, also posted a statement on Facebook.
"First and foremost, we recognize that peaceful expression is a constitutional right," the statement began. "Our department respects the rights of students and community members to assemble and express their views lawfully and peacefully. During the high school protest, officers were present to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the public. Our primary role was to maintain order, prevent traffic hazards, and ensure that no one was placed at risk."
While the department said a majority of the students protested in an orderly fashion, they moved in to quell the chaos when it arose.
"When actions moved beyond peaceful expression and began affecting public safety and private property rights, officers intervened to restore order," the statement said.

In a candid interview with Fox News Digital, Martin shared his strong opinions on the delinquent youths.
"What about it was a group of students, North College Hills students, was protesting ICE, but they came in the store. They was being loud and obnoxious. They was damaging property, and they was interfering with the customers," he said.
He said the ceiling of the store was damaged during the chaos, and one man was even hit in the head with a projectile. Martin noted that while the injury was not serious enough to call paramedics, the man was "highly upset."
"I do think that whoever is responsible for the chaos ought to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the court," said Martin. "It’s not safe for the environment. It’s not safe for the customers. It’s not safe for people. So, whoever was responsible and whoever did come to the store should be held liable by the law."
North College Hill School City School District did not return a request for comment.

In Punjab, an IED was found in a suspicious bag near the Rayya police post in Amritsar on Friday. Police said the bomb disposal squad was rushed to the spot and the IED was diffused.
"A suspicious bag was spotted close to the police chowk. Immediately, the bomb disposal squad was called, and they confirmed it as an IED. Later, as per the protocol, it was diffused," SSP Sohail Qasim Mir told India Today.
Another IED was found at Safapora in Kashmir's Ganderbal district, also on Saturday. The bomb detection squad (BDS) of the army and police detected the IED and defused it within hours.
The IED found in Ganderbal is the third such device which was diffused in North Kashmir within days. One was found and diffused in Bandipora on Thursday, and another was diffused in Pattan, Baramulla.
DELHI ON HIGH ALERT DUE TO THE LASHKAR PLOT INPUT
These IEDs have been found at a time when the national capital Delhi is in a state of high alert as of Saturday, February 21, following specific intelligence reports regarding terror attacks being planned by Pakistain-based banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The threat is centred around religious sites, with a temple in the Chandni Chowk area near the iconic Red Fort identified as a potential target.
The terror outfit is allegedly seeking to "avenge" a suicide kaboom that occurred on February 6 at a Shia mosque in Pakistain’s capital city, Islamabad, news agencies cited sources as saying. That blast claimed at least 31 lives.
Pakistain has previously implied external involvement in the Islamabad blast, a claim India has categorically dismissed. In a statement released earlier this month, India noted, "It is unfortunate that, instead of seriously addressing the problems plaguing its social fabric, Pakistain should choose to delude itself by blaming others for its home-grown ills. India rejects any and every such allegation, which is as baseless as it is pointless".
SPECIFIC THREATS OF IED ATTACKS
Intelligence sources have provided specific details about the potential strike. At least two senior Delhi Police officers, speaking on condition of anonymity

While those initial inputs were later assessed, new specific intelligence received on Saturday suggests an IED attack is being plotted.

[Rudaw] The Iraqi army raided five Kurdish homes in Kirkuk early Sunday and forcibly expelled the families, claiming the properties are built on land belonging to the military.
The houses are located in the Newroz neighborhood in southern Kirkuk, ... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time... an area home to Kurds, Arabs, and Turkmens. The Iraqi army maintains that several homes there were constructed on military-owned land. However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable... a Rudaw news hound in the city said that only Kurdish houses have been targeted so far.
The army previously attempted to expel Kurdish families from the same neighborhood in early 2024, managing to seize five houses at the time. Several Kurds who resisted were detained. The army later withdrew from the properties, and the families resumed renovations.
In the early hours of Sunday, troops returned to take over the same five houses. Families told Rudaw that soldiers used force after residents refused to leave.
Shawkat, one of the expelled residents, said he had gone to a relative’s house for suhoor — the pre-dawn meal during Ramadan — and returned to find around 15 soldiers inside his home.
"When I sat in the house and refused to leave, they used force to remove me. They claim the land belongs to them and refused to show any [court] ruling [authorizing the raid]," he said.
The homes in the Newroz neighborhood were previously inhabited by members of Saddam Hussein’s Ba’ath Party. Following the fall of the regime in 2003, Kurdish families displaced from Kirkuk returned and settled in the houses.
Paul Bremer, head of the Coalition Provisional Authority after 2003, issued a decree registering the properties under Iraq’s finance ministry.
A later decision by a former Kirkuk provincial council allowed the families to remain in the homes until the federal government provided compensation.
[IsraelTimes] A 20-year-old man is hospitalized in serious condition after being shot in the head by IDF troops in the Palestinian village of Beit Furik, east of Nablus in the northern West Bank, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society says.
Another 16-year-old is also hospitalized after being shot in the leg, according to the Red Crescent.
The IDF does not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Palestinian media reports that the IDF has been operating in the village since this afternoon, after locals clashed with settlers. During the clash, soldiers reportedly detained several Palestinians and also fired at a car, wounding a 14-year-old Palestinian boy, who has also been hospitalized.
The Red Crescent confirmed at the time that it was treating a 14-year-old for bullet wounds.
[IsraelTimes] The military says a Palestinian terror operative who crossed the Gaza ceasefire line in the Strip’s north earlier today was killed by troops.
According to the IDF, the terror operative crossed the Yellow Line and approached soldiers of the Gaza Division’s Northern Brigade “in a manner that posed an immediate threat.”
The troops then “eliminated the terrorist in order to remove the threat,” the army says.

[IsraelTimes] Police use a water cannon to break up an anti-government protest outside the prime minister’s residence in Jerusalem, detaining at least two demonstrators.
Activists say that officers also injured a demonstrator, retired IDF colonel Shemi Attar, who was taken to the hospital after a cop knocked him on his back. They say that the water cannon contained foul-smelling skunk spray, according to Haaretz.

Labor MK Gilad Kariv accuses the police of breaking the law in deploying the water cannon. A bill to ban skunk spray is currently moving through the Knesset.
Of course the protesters don’t like it, but the rest of us are delighted — so long as we can stay downwind, anyway.
Overall, thousands are reported to gather at weekly anti-government protests across the country, with the largest such protest taking place at Tel Aviv’s Habima Square.

[IsraelTimes] Senior Hezbollah political leader and Lebanese parliament member Mahmoud Qamati says that the group’s only choice is “resistance” after an Israeli strike in eastern Lebanon killed eight of the group’s operatives a day before.
“What happened yesterday in the Beqaa is a new massacre and a new aggression, exceeding all the previous levels of aggression against Lebanon,” Qamati says in a speech broadcast by Hezbollah’s Al-Manar network during a protest in Beirut.
“What option do we have left to defend ourselves and our country? What option do we have other than resistance? We no longer have any [other] option.”
The strike in the Beqaa Valley killed eight Hezbollah operatives, including one described as a “commander,” the group said earlier today.
The IDF said the strikes targeted three command centers belonging to Hezbollah’s missile array, killing a “large number” of operatives. According to Lebanese media, the strikes killed at least 10 and wounded over 50.
One of the operatives, Hussein Mohammed Yaghi, is identified by Hezbollah as a “commander.” Hezbollah rarely refers to its senior operatives slain in Israeli strikes as commanders.
The terror group says the eight operatives were killed “while defending Lebanon and its people during a treacherous Israeli attack on the Beqaa region.”

[IsraelTimes] The Islamic State jihadist group claims responsibility for two attacks targeting Syrian army personnel in northern and eastern Syria, as the group signaled what it described as a new phase of operations against the country’s leadership.
The group says on its Dabiq news agency that it had targeted “an individual of the apostate Syrian regime” in the city of Mayadin in Deir al-Zor province using a pistol, and attacked two other personnel with machine guns in the northern city of Raqqa.
Syria’s Defense Ministry says in a statement that a Syrian army soldier and a civilian were killed on Saturday by “unknown assailants.” A military source tells Reuters the soldier belonged to the army’s 42nd Division.
The attacks come amid a sharp escalation by ISIS against Syria’s leadership under President Ahmed al-Sharaa, a former al Qaeda leader who broke with the terror group in 2016 before leading a coalition of Islamist factions that overthrew President Bashar al-Assad at the end of 2024.
ISIS releases a recorded statement by its spokesperson, Abu Hudhayfa al-Ansari, who says Syria had “moved from Iranian occupation to Turkish-American occupation.”
The group says it had begun a “new phase of operations” in Syria, describing Sharaa as a “watchdog” of the global coalition and vowing that his fate will be no different from that of Assad.
Sharaa signed Syria’s accession to the global coalition to defeat ISIS during a visit to the US last November, when he met US President Donald Trump.
The latest incidents come two days after ISIS claimed responsibility for another attack in Deir al-Zor that killed a member of the Interior Ministry’s internal security forces and wounded another.
