[JTN] The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, told the security guards that he was Secret Service before pointing a handgun at one of the officers and pulling the trigger, though the gun did not fire.
Portland Police said Thursday that a man who attempted to shoot security officers at a store last week while posing as Secret Service has died after officers shot him while trying to serve an arrest warrant.
Police said the man fled the scene with the handgun after it failed to work properly but left behind an instrument case that contained a loaded shotgun with threatening messages inscribed on the shells that named President Donald Trump.
"Officers conducted an extensive search of the area attempting to locate the suspect, but he was not found," the Portland Police Department said. "At the time, officers did not know his identity."
The department said it was able to track the man down with assistance from the real Secret Service and the Enhanced Community Safety Team. The officers were able to get an arrest warrant for Attempted Assault in the First Degree and were in the process of carrying it out when the suspect was fatally shot.
"They announced that they were Portland Police, ordered the suspect to come out with his hands empty, and they gave him warnings that force may be used against him if he did not comply," the department said.
"About 35 minutes later, officers deployed irritant gas munitions, including OC Vapor and CS gas, into the apartment," it continued. "They were effective and the suspect emerged into the hallway holding a handgun."
The department said that two of the officers shot the suspect, with one stating that the suspect had pointed the gun at him, and paramedics determined the man was dead on the scene.
"The suspect's identity will be released after he has been formally identified by the medical examiner and appropriate notifications have been made," the department said. "No officers or other community members were injured in this incident. The officers who used deadly force will be placed on paid administrative leave. This is standard protocol following an officer-involved shooting."

The FBI boss said the renewed efforts have already resulted in a 40% increase in Chinese espionage arrests in the first year of the second Trump administration.

Just the News reported this week that an illegal biolab in California searched by local, state, and federal authorities in 2023 and a separate hazardous lab inside a Las Vegas garage raided by the FBI over the weekend are both tied to a Chinese national currently awaiting trial for fraud, false statements, and adulteration of medical devices, according to court filings, police officials and members of Congress.

Those research ties are even more concerning given the discoveries in 2023 in Reedley, Calif., and 2026 in Las Vegas, Nev., of the two illicit, makeshift biolabs that are suspected of using dangerous pathogens, said Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, the director of the National Institutes of Health.
"When you do research like this, potentially in an environment where there's very little biosecurity, you're posing hazards to everyone around you. And the fact is these were completely flying under the radar screen," Bhattacharya told Just the News.
"We need a better system for detecting and preventing these kinds of labs from popping up, so that they don't cause the kind of havoc, the sort of the worst kinds of stories," he added.
Bhattacharya declined to speculate on the motivations behind setting up risky biolabs in California and Vegas, but stressed that “it's very, very dangerous what defined the kinds of agents that have been reported publicly."

Patel promised complete transparency on the Vegas lab incident but raised concern that his predecessor, former Director Christopher Wray, and others in the Biden administration may have misled the public about the Chinese government's ties to the California biolab incident in 2023.
"If you recall, a similar incident in Reedley, California from a few years ago was evidently buried by the prior administration, and they said it had no connection to the CCP," he said.
“When we discovered that, we took swift action to course correct the intelligence and figure out why the American public was misled by individuals in this institution, including my predecessor. We're going to get to the bottom of it. We're just awaiting the lab results, and we're going to keep going," he said.
He added that under his leadership the FBI would not do the same with information about the Vegas lab.
“We knew about this information and worked with the state law enforcement authorities there in Las Vegas to execute these search warrants and collect over 1000 samples of material that has now been sent back to the FBI lab for analysis,” Patel said. “And this is something that we're going to keep continuing to uncover."

There is just so much of it that we need to stop the checks, trigger the Dem judge who stops us with the restraining order, we the appeal and win, and finally block the flow. Then, someday, put someone in jail. In Ohio, there were approximately 68 cases that Yost prosecuted for Welfare fraud last year. None were Somalis. They say they that they’ve been all over this for a long time. I believe that they are lying.

[ClevelandCom] A Toledo man has been charged with threatening to kill Vice President JD Vance during his visit to Northwest Ohio last month.
Shannon Mathre, 33, was indicted earlier this week and arrested by U.S. Secret Service agents on Friday, according to the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio. Mathree appeared before a U.S. magistrate judge the same day and is being held in custody pending a Feb. 11 detention hearing.
If found guilty, Mathre faces a maximum of five years and prison and up to a $250,000 fine.
The indictment claims Mathre said, “I am going to find out where he (the vice president) is going to be and use my M14 automatic gun and kill him,” according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
And does he actually have an M-14 automatic rifle? I understand it is practically impossible for a civilian to get a license to buy automatic rifles, as opposed to semiautomatics.
Mathre also faces a charge of engaging “in the receipt and distribution of images that visually depict minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.” according to the release. Federal agents found “digital files of child sexual abuse materials” in Mathre’s possession while investigating the threat claims against Vance, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
If found guilty of possessing the materials, Mathre could go to prison for up to 20 years and be forced to pay a fine of up $250,000.

[CBSnews] Newly released Department of Justice documents show that investigators reviewing surveillance footage from the night of Jeffrey Epstein's death observed an orange-colored shape moving up a staircase toward the isolated, locked tier where his cell was located at approximately 10:39 p.m. on Aug. 9, 2019.
That entry in an observation log of the video from the Metropolitan Correctional Center appears to suggest something previously unreported by authorities: "A flash of orange looks to be going up the L Tier stairs — could possibly be an inmate escorted up to that Tier."
It also appears, according to an FBI memorandum, that reviews by investigators led to disparate conclusions by the FBI and those examining the same video from the Department of Justice's Office of Inspector General.
The FBI log describes the fuzzy image as "possibly an inmate."
The inspector general logs it as an officer carrying orange "linen or bedding," noting it in their final report as "an unidentified [corrections officer]."
The final report by the Inspector General stated: "At approximately 10:39 p.m., an unidentified CO appeared to walk up the L Tier stairway, and then reappeared within view of the camera at 10:41 p.m."
Official reports state that Epstein died by suicide some time before 6:30 a.m., when his body was discovered by a corrections officer delivering his breakfast. No official time of death was ever determined. In recent months, there have been questions about the work of investigators probing the circumstances of his death.
In an in-depth analysis of surveillance video from the jail, CBS News previously reported on the figure on the stairs and consulted independent video analysts who said the movement was more consistent with an inmate — or someone wearing an orange prison uniform — than a corrections officer.
The new records raise more questions about activity near Epstein's tier late that evening. Official reviews of Epstein's death make no mention of the figure in orange, and later pronouncements from authorities including the attorney general at the time, Bill Barr, were that no one entered Epstein's housing tier the night of his death. Last summer in an interview on "Fox & Friends," then-deputy FBI director Dan Bongino said, "There's video clear as day, he's the only person in there and the only person coming out. You can see it."
Prison employees interviewed by CBS News said escorting an inmate at that hour would have been highly unusual. The identification of the individual could have been crucial to reconstructing the events, given that the sighting occurred within the estimated window of Epstein's possible time of death.
The staircase leading to his cell tier was captured by the only camera known to have been recording that night, positioned in a way that partially obscured the approach to Epstein's tier. Government investigators relied heavily on that footage in reconstructing the timeline of events. But because of the camera angle, it was not possible to rule out whether someone could have climbed the stairs and entered the tier without being clearly visible. CBS News' analysis of that video found additional contradictions between what the video showed and official statements.
INSIDE THE SHU
Thousands of pages released last week as part of a broader Justice Department disclosure of Epstein-related files, totaling more than 3 million documents, provide additional detail about the hours between the evening of Aug. 9, when Epstein was last seen alive on camera, and the discovery of his body the following morning.
Records and interviews describe a largely quiet night inside the Special Housing Unit, or SHU, where Epstein was being held. Several inmates told investigators they were using drugs inside their cells, including marijuana and K2, a synthetic substance that multiple witnesses said was common on the tier.
Among those interviewed were the two corrections officers assigned to the unit that night, Tova Noel and Ghitto Bonhomme, a materials handler who had not previously been publicly identified. Documents show Bonhomme was interviewed twice in September 2019 in sessions conducted in lieu of a grand jury subpoena.
According to Noel's account, Bonhomme had been working multiple consecutive shifts and slept while on duty for a period between approximately 10 p.m. and midnight.
Investigators also questioned Noel about an unexplained change in the recorded number of inmates in the SHU, which appeared to drop from 73 to 72 sometime between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. Noel said she was "probably" mistaken about the discrepancy and told investigators she had no memory of a count changing.
Neither officer was specifically asked about the orange-colored figure noted in the video observation log. Bonhomme told investigators he did not remember the period between 10 p.m. and midnight and said he had no recollection of anyone walking up the stairs toward Epstein's tier at around 10:30 p.m. He added that a jail employee entering a tier alone would have violated policy.
A separate internal presentation included in the document release described a corrections officer, believed by investigators to be Noel, carrying linen or inmate clothing up to the tier. The 2023 inspector general report did not identify Noel as the figure seen in the footage. In her interview, Noel told investigators distributing linen was not part of her duties. "I never gave out linen. Ever," she said. "Because that's done on the shift prior."
AN EARLY MORNING DISCOVERY
Bonhomme ended his shift at midnight and was replaced by another corrections officer named Michael Thomas, who would discover Epstein's body hours later. Noel continued on for a second consecutive 8-hour shift.
Thomas and Noel failed to complete inmate counts at 3 a.m., and 5 a.m. as well as mandatory 30-minute wellness checks of Epstein. Investigators speculated the officers may have fallen asleep.
Thomas and Noel were later charged with falsifying records certifying the inmate counts had been completed. Federal prosecutors eventually dropped the charges in exchange for cooperation agreements that included interviews. A transcript of Thomas' interview, conducted two years after Epstein's death and released in the recent document disclosure, shows significant gaps in his recollection of the morning Epstein was found.
Thomas told investigators he discovered Epstein in his cell shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Aug.10 and that he "ripped" Epstein down from the hanging position.
Investigators asked what happened to the noose.
"I don't recall taking the noose off. I really don't," he replied. "I don't recall taking the thing from around his neck."
Noel, who remained standing at the cell entrance, told investigators she saw Thomas lower Epstein to the floor but did not see a noose around his neck.

This is yet another in a long, long string of very short, shaky, unfocused, far away videos that purport to show something of significance but in fact show nothing at all. MSM outlets like CBS tell viewers what to think while showing these videos hoping that viewers will be too stupid and lazy to think for themselves. The video proves nothing.
If CBS reporters, editors and bosses had the slightest bit of curiousity they'd look into the finances and the whereabouts of those two guards who fell asleep. Maybe even ask them a question or two such as, "Did you really fall asleep or did somebody pay you to say that?"

Tellingly, Sánchez does not mention the moral duty the Spanish government has to his own people. Nor does he even attempt to explain why Spain has a moral obligation to legalize these migrants. The parallel he draws between Spanish nationals emigrating to Europe and the United States, and migrants from South America and Asia illegally entering Spain, is disingenuous to the point of absurdity. There is no more similarity between the two than there is between a guest one invites over for dinner and a thief who breaks into one’s home.

U.S. Small Business Administration Administrator Kelly Loeffler announced Friday that the agency has suspended 111,620 California borrowers amid suspected fraudulent activity across SBA pandemic-era loan programs. In total, these borrowers received 118,489 Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Loans totaling over $8.6 billion.
Once again, the Trump SBA is taking decisive action to deliver accountability in a state whose unaccountable welfare policies have created a culture of fraud and abuse at the expense of law-abiding taxpayers and small business owners,” said SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler. “Today, we announced we have suspended nearly 112,000 borrowers tied to at least $9 billion in suspected fraud. This staggering number represents the most significant crack-down on those who defrauded pandemic programs, and it illuminates the scale of corruption that the Biden Administration tolerated for years. As we did in Minnesota, we are actively working with federal law enforcement to identify the criminals who defrauded American taxpayers, hold them to account, and recoup the stolen funds. As we continue our state-by-state work, our message is clear: pandemic-era fraudsters will not get a pass under this Administration.
These actions follow SBA’s recent suspension of 6,900 Minnesota borrowers (see SBA Strikes Back: Now Suspending 6,900 Fraud Suspects in Minnesota – RedState) associated with 7,900 potentially fraudulent PPP and EIDL loans worth approximately $400 million.
While this suspension shuts off the tap, we shouldn't deceive ourselves into thinking that this money will be recouped or even that the businesses are anything more than addresses of convenience. The California Post discovered one address in San Diego where 14 businesses were registered in 2020 that got over $2M in PPP and EIDL loans.
One thing we're seeing is that in predominantly Democrat jurisdictions, defrauding federal programs has the status of a lifestyle. The people who participate are disproportionately illegals, and the money they scam out of the federal government finds its way into bank accounts, terrorist groups, and as kickbacks to the local Democrat political power structure; see Does the Mounting Minnesota Fraud Scandal Explain the Curious Prominence of Some Minnesota Politicians? – RedState.
Though much of the coverage of fraud has focused on the Somali community in Minnesota (Nick Shirley Strikes Again, Drops Second Bombshell Video Exposing Rampant MN Fraud – RedState), California doesn't look to be a slouch when it comes to sucking the federal teat bone dry. When Dr. Mehmet Oz, director of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, visited Los Angeles, he found 42 fraudulent hospices in a four-block radius that were responsible for at least $3.5 billion in fraud. Oz had the temerity to point out that, similar to Minneapolis, the fraud was being run by Russian and Armenian mobsters. This led California Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom to file a civil rights complaint against Oz accusing him of discrimination.

[JTN] House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said floor vote will force Democrats to declare where they stand on two election integrity items widely supported by Americans.
The U.S. House of Representatives will vote next week on a new bill that would require all states to check both citizenship and photo identification before allowing voters to cast ballots, combining two widely popular election integrity provisions and ramping up pressure on a Senate that has been unwilling to consider either mandate.
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., and Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, confirmed in an interview Wednesday evening with Just the News that the vote will be held next week for the Save America Act, which combines the two requirements that have passed the House individually but not received a vote in the GOP-controlled Senate.
Roy is the chief sponsor of the legislation in the House, joined by Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, in the Senate.
"I'm announcing that we are bringing Chip's bill, the SAVE America Act, to the House floor next week," Scalise said in an interview on the John Solomon Reports podcast. "So it's on the floor, and everybody's got to pick a side: do you want to make sure that only American citizens vote in elections and that you have to show an ID to vote?
"You can't get into a bar, you can't get on an airplane without an ID and if we want to make sure the franchise of America's democracy is in place, let's do this as well," Scalise added.
Roy credited Trump for coming up with the new name for the bill and said he expects the president to pressure senators and Democrats in swing states to vote for it.
"Look, everybody wants this," Roy said. "People say, and Democrats are going to say, 'Oh, it's racist.' 'This is Jim Crow.' That's nonsense. You look at the polling. CNN had polling that 80% of people, regardless of skin color, believe that we should have voter ID.
"You got to have real ID to get on a plane. You got to have ID to go to baseball games. You can certainly have an identification to go vote in elections to defend the sovereignty of our country," he added.
Roy called on Senate Leader John Thune to change the filibuster rules in that chamber — making Democrats stand and talk until they tire to keep a filibuster blockade going — to give Republicans a chance to eventually get the legislation passed over Democrat opposition before the 2026 election.
"I just hope, once we move it through the House next week, that leader soon will force a talking filibuster to get us to have a real fight over in the Senate. But right now, our first job is to get it through the House," he said.
The House passed Roy's SAVE Act in April, which would amend the 1993 National Voter Registration Act to ensure states require documentation of a person's U.S. citizenship before registering to vote in federal elections. However, the legislation did not require voters to present photo identification.
Although non-citizens are already prohibited from voting in federal, state, and most local elections, municipalities in California, Maryland and Vermont, and Washington, D.C., allow non-citizens to vote in local elections.
I'd like to tell Schumer that if somebody is too lazy and stupid to get a birth certificate and the proper ID then they are too lazy and stupid to vote.

"Starting now and beginning in the 2026-27 school year, I am discontinuing all graduate level Professional Military Education (PME), all fellowships and certificate programs between Harvard University and the War Department for active duty service members," Hegseth, who himself holds a master’s degree in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School, says on X.
The policy will apply to service members enrolling in future programs while those currently enrolled will be allowed to finish their courses, Hegseth says.
He also adds that the Pentagon will evaluate similar relationships with other universities in the coming weeks.
Rights advocates have raised free speech, academic freedom, and due process concerns over the government’s actions against universities.
A Harvard spokesperson directs Rooters to a page on the history of the university’s ties with the US military that says Harvard has played a "significant role" in America’s military traditions since the nation’s founding.
