| US launches 'defensive' strikes on Iran's Qeshm Island in Strait of Hormuz, official says |

| [FOX] The United States struck Iran’s Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, officials confirmed Monday. The strike was carried out in response to Iran firing at a U.S. aircraft this evening, the official said. The strike was “defensive” in response to Iran firing first and does not indicate a return to U.S. military strikes on Iran or the beginning of an escalation, the official confirmed. Qeshm Island is home to an underground missile site, a naval base and a major desalination plant. Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported earlier that five explosions were heard across Qeshm Island in succession. The news agency also cited residents who said they saw two aircraft flying overhead when the explosions occurred. |
