US President Donald Trump has warned the Gulf states of a short, focused war with Iran, which will take place after the midterm elections in the United States - this was reported tonight (Tuesday-Wednesday) in the Wall Street Journal.
The US military has reportedly moved a Patriot missile system from Texas to bolster defenses in the Gulf, and ordered troops at bases in the region to leave, fearing an escalation. It has also been reported that US forces in the region are replenishing their weapons stockpiles, and that an aircraft carrier and another Marine unit are expected to join the 20 warships already operating in the Middle East next month.
Trump has not yet decided whether to authorize the strikes, but he is leaning toward a major attack after the US midterm elections, which could be directed against infrastructure and nuclear sites in Iran, according to the report.
The report comes after Israeli sources told Haaretz yesterday that the possibility of a confrontation with Iran after the Israeli elections exists - but depends on the United States. According to the sources, Israel's intention is to take a joint step with the Americans, if the decision on the matter is made by President Donald Trump.
