What is Pixel Lock in Modern Battle Space
2026-10-24
[Sarcastosaurus] Imagine flying a drone toward a Russian logistics truck in occupied Ukraine. You can see the target clearly on your screen, and you are guiding the drone toward it. Then, suddenly the video disappears.

Perhaps the enemy has jammed your communications. Maybe you have flown beyond the effective range of your radio. Either way, you can no longer see what the drone sees, and you can no longer control it.

For much of the modern battlespace, this would have been the end of the drone mission.

But what if, before losing the video, you could simply tell the drone what you wanted it to follow? What if the drone could continue tracking that object without any further instructions from you?

That is the basic idea behind a technology commonly called pixel lock.

In Ukraine, where electronic warfare (EW) is a constant presence on the battlefield, this method of terminal guidance has become very important.
