[IranWatch] Abdul Amir Taiban, a senior adviser to Iraq’s prime minister, says drugs and sophisticated counterfeit dinars and dollars are pouring into southern Iraq from the Iranian side of the border.
| What a good friend Iran is to its brotherly neighbour, to be sure. |
He accused Iran of violating Iraqi sovereignty, creating chaos along the frontier and deliberately damaging Iraq’s economy. He said the resulting economic destruction is now worse than the damage inflicted by ISIS.
These accusations accompanied Iraq’s indefinite closure of the al-Sheib border crossing to passengers, vehicles and commercial trucks. Iraq says the crossing requires tighter security arrangements and better equipment for detecting prohibited materials.
