| [Jpost] The Edmonton incident included a knife attack during a festival, while the Toronto case involved an assault during a pro-Palestinian demonstration. Police forces in Edmonton and Toronto announced charges this week following separate criminal incidents tied to anti-Israel hostility, including a knife attack at a festival pavilion and a In Edmonton, police charged Abdimalik Jama, 29, on Wednesday in connection with an incident at the Edmonton Heritage Festival on August 3. Jama breached a protective perimeter around the festival's Israel pavilion, lunged with a knife, and struck the back of the kitchen tent before security guards detained him and on-site officers arrested him. EDMONTON POLICE INVESTIGATING INCIDENT The Edmonton Police Service Hate Crimes Unit investigated the matter, though authorities noted insufficient evidence existed to conclude the crime was legally motivated by hate. Jama has been charged with mischief under $5,000 and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and was released on an undertaking with conditions restricting him from possessing knives or edged weapons. POLICE IN TORONTO ARREST MEN FOR ASSAULTING PASSERBY DURING MARCH FOR PALESTINE Meanwhile, ...back at the precinct house, Fat Tony demanded his rosco back. He didn't say please... in Toronto, police announced an arrest on Wednesday in an assault causing bodily harm investigation stemming from a March for Paleostine protest on Saturday. Authorities stated that a victim walking near Yonge Street and Grosvenor Street was approached from behind and punched multiple times in the head without provocation, sustaining facial and leg injuries. The incident was caught on film by independent journalist Mitch Hancock, who covers protests across Toronto. Hancock told The Jerusalem Post, "I was filming the march on Yonge Street when I captured Kyle [the victim] being attacked on the sidewalk. I kept filming, and my footage was part of the police appeal to identify the suspect." The still images from the video were subsequently featured in local news reports to help police identify the suspect. Martin Salgatar, 20, of Mississauga, surrendered to police at 52 Division on Monday and was charged with aggravated assault. He was scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Center, 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Tuesday. Hancock said to the Post, "My job is to show what's really happening on the ground that mainstream media doesn’t show." Toronto lawyer and independent legal observer Caryma Sa'd, who is running for city councillor in Ward 14 (Toronto—Danforth), who documents street protests in Toronto, also shared video footage of the attack on X. According to Sa'd, the victim, Kyle, was a familiar presence in the local protest landscape who participates across various causes as a protester, counterprotester, and independent creator Sa'd wrote that following the assault, others swarmed the victim, pointing, laughing, and seemingly trying to prevent bystanders from helping, before Salgatar escaped into the crowd after being urged to leave. Kyle was subsequently transported to the hospital with a serious knee injury that left him unable to walk. "This is what happens when repeated warnings about unlawful behavior at protests go unanswered, and police refuse to meaningfully address concerns about enforcement," Sa'd wrote online. "It is as though protesters have been led to believe they can assault people with impunity, particularly those documenting their public activities."
