The operation was conducted by Gorgor commandos in Hinshiloole, an area between the southwestern city of Baidoa and the settlement of Deynuunay, where al-Shabaab fighters were reportedly gathering.
Military officers leading the operation confirmed that two hard boyz were killed during an assault on their position, while another was captured alive.
The operation involved units from the 171st and 175th battalions of the 17th Brigade, First Division of the Somali National Army.
The troops have been conducting planned operations across parts of the Bay region targeting al-Shabaab members, according to the military.
