Islamic regime attacks against Kurdish forces affect both Kurds in Iran, Iraq as tensions rise
2026-10-11
[Jpost] More than 1,000 drones have been fired against Kurdish forces in Iraq, while Kurds in both Iran and Iraq fear that the strikes will reach their homes.

Iran is increasing its rhetoric against Kurdish Iranian dissident groups based in the Kurdistan Region of northern Iraq.

It also carried out a recent drone attack against the groups, one of more than 1,000 attacks carried out since February. US forces recently left Iraq, and this could leave the Kurdistan Region vulnerable to more Iranian attacks.

This has many implications. Two articles at Rudaw, a Kurdish media network based in Erbil, indicate the growing concerns.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI) has rejected accusations by Iran’s consul general in Erbil that Iranian Kurdish opposition groups are cooperating with foreign powers.

The dispute comes amid continued Iranian drone and missile attacks on the Kurdistan Region of northern Iraq, where residents living near Iranian Kurdish opposition bases fear more strikes.

According to a Rudaw report, the KDPI responded on Friday to comments by Iranian Consul General Faramarz Asadi, who accused Kurdish opposition parties of allying because of pressure from foreign powers.
