| 2026-10-06 |
Just keeping track of Chinese orientation. [ToloNews] The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan officially opened the Wakhan Corridor road on Sunday, establishing a road connection between Afghanistan and China.Construction of the more than 121-kilometer road, stretching from the Boroghil border area to the zero point on the Chinese border in Wakhan district of northeastern Badakhshan province, began two years ago. The unpaved road cost the Islamic Emirate 365 million afghanis. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Abdul Latif Mansour, Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, said the road holds strategic, political and economic importance for Afghanistan. "The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has prioritized such public projects, especially in provinces that are most in need. There are no foreign engineers or advisers; all the engineers are Afghans," Mansour said. Meanwhile, ...back at the Alamo, Davy was counting their remaining cannon balls and not liking the results... Rahmatullah Najib, governor of Badakhshan, said that after 45 years of war in the country, the Afghan people are witnessing the completion of such a major project in one of Afghanistan’s most remote areas. The Wakhan Corridor, which includes part of one of Afghanistan’s national parks, attracts both domestic and international tourists. The number of visitors is expected to increase as further development projects are implemented in the area. Wakhan is one of Afghanistan’s most remote regions and borders China’s Xinjiang region and Tajikistan, as well as areas along the hypothetical Durand Line. The road linking Afghanistan with China is expected to play an important role in the country’s trade, economic development and regional transit. |
