Sept Employment report from NFIB
2026-10-02
Link to National Federation of Independent Business This is a good place to look for signs of a coming recession. No such signs currently. Some decrease in small biz hiring but this is due to difficulty in finding employees. Other places to look are from the BLS and the latest reports there: 09/29/2026 August job openings and hires change little; total separations unchanged 09/25/2026 Retirement benefits available to 72% of private industry workers in March 2026 09/24/2026 57% of workers have flexible schedules; 34% of workers sometimes work at home 09/24/2026 Median tenure with current employer increases to 4.1 years in January 2026 all show no recession in the near term only real bad thing in the economy is gasoline price which will come down a bit as the winter blend (higher vapor pressure) fills tanks; however, existing gasoline in storage is down quite a bit and will require months to recover
