[Regnum] A bear attacked two men in Buryatia. The victims were taken to the hospital, REN TV reported on September 26, citing the republic's Ministry of Health.
The men were hospitalized at a Ulan-Ude medical facility. Doctors assess their condition as moderate.
"Medical care is being provided in full," the regional Ministry of Health stated.
According to the local portal ulanmedia.ru, a bear attacked the men near a forest belt in the Khara-Shibir ulus. The victims were searching for missing calves.
The authors of the article explained that the predator first attacked one of the men, knocking him to the ground. The second man began firing his gun, after which the bear turned on him. The bear was ultimately shot dead.
In Russia, bear attacks on people are becoming increasingly common. On September 25, in the village of Markovo in Chukotka, a bear attacked a man returning from fishing. Police officers rescued residents of a gardening non-profit partnership (SNT) in the Ust-Kutsky District of the Irkutsk Oblast from a bear attack. This was reported on September 26 by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Irkutsk Oblast.
The previous morning, residents of a gardening community contacted law enforcement after a bear entered one of the property's grounds and attacked dogs. The owner of the property spotted the predator in her garden. She was three meters away from the bear, which dragged a dog from the yard, climbed over a fence, and disappeared into the woods. The residents locked themselves in their house and called the police.
Arriving law enforcement officers and a game warden discovered the bear 50 meters from the home. Law enforcement officers used firearms, and the bear was subdued. No one was injured.
