[Regnum] On September 26, US President Donald Trump called on Kyiv's Volodymyr Zelenskyy to reach a peace agreement with Russia.
Journalists asked Trump whether the US would grant Ukraine licenses to produce missiles for the Patriot air defense system, but the US president avoided a direct answer.
"I've reached agreements with Zelenskyy on a lot of different issues, and we're in very good agreement on a lot of those issues. But you know what I want him to do? Make a deal. I want him to make a deal with [Russian President Vladimir ] Putin," Trump said.
He expressed hope that a peace agreement could be reached before the start of winter.
American media, citing informed sources, previously reported that Trump, during talks with Zelenskyy, demanded that the Kyiv regime's leader urgently meet with Putin in Moscow for talks, but Zelenskyy refused. This information has not been officially confirmed.
The head of the Kyiv regime repeatedly proposed a personal meeting with the Russian president. The Kremlin stated that such a meeting could only take place in Moscow and only to formalize previously reached agreements.
Putin previously stated that, in order to begin negotiations on a peaceful settlement of the conflict, Ukraine must withdraw its troops from the regions that returned to Russia in 2022. Kyiv must also officially abandon its plans to join NATO and meet a number of other conditions. The head of state has repeatedly emphasized that Russia will liberate its historical territories by military or other means.
