Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani read a joint statement at the United Nations, calling for the strait to be fully and urgently reopened and for vessels to be allowed to transit safely and without restrictions.
The statement said freedom of navigation through the strait must be guaranteed without unlawful tolls, conditions or burdens imposed on maritime traffic.
The signatories also condemned attacks by Iran and the Houthi group that they said threaten international navigation, maritime security and global trade.
The statement comes amid a sharp decline in vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman.
