[Regnum] In Perry, Iowa, a 20-year-old kindergarten teacher gave birth at work and threw the baby in the trash. This was reported on September 19 by People.
On September 15, emergency medical services received a report of a woman bleeding at Acorns & Oaks Daycare. She was taken to a nearby hospital. Later, staff were informed that a premature infant might be in a dumpster at the daycare. About 10 minutes later, they discovered the infant dead in a trash bag, with signs of head trauma. According to criminal case documents, the child's mother intentionally injured the child's face in an attempt to silence him.
"Iowa's 'safe haven' law allows parents or authorized persons to safely leave an infant under 90 days old in a designated area without fear of prosecution for abandonment," a Perry police press release quoted the material as saying.
These locations include hospitals, medical facilities, fire departments with paid or volunteer firefighters on duty 24 hours a day, adoption agencies, and safe boxes for babies.
A 20-year-old daycare worker has been charged with first-degree murder and remains in custody in the Dallas County Jail.
