[Regnum] An oil supertanker struck mines while attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported this on September 14.
The supertanker El Gaia, which was planning to transit the restricted area in the southern Strait of Hormuz, was struck by naval mines. A fire broke out on the vessel, and attempts to contain the blaze were unsuccessful. The vessel is currently engulfed in flames.
The IRGC emphasized that the vessels had received a warning about the danger of illegal passage through the Strait of Hormuz, adding that the strait remains closed and under full Iranian control.
The UK Maritime Trade Organization (UKMTO) previously reported that a tanker was attacked by an unspecified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz. An investigation is underway into the incident.
IRGC downs advanced MQ-1 drone over Strait of Hormuz
[HodhodYemenNews] The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has confirmed the downing of an advanced MQ-1 drone in the airspace over the Strait of Hormuz, according to state news agency IRNA.
The IRGC announced on Monday that its Aerospace Force, operating within Iran’s integrated air defense network, has intercepted and destroyed an advanced MQ-1 drone over the Strait of Hormuz moments ago.
The IRGC Navy had earlier announced that it had struck and destroyed a US unmanned surface vessel at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.
The Navy added that the US “terrorist and aggressor army” had in recent days dispatched unmanned vessels to the Strait of Hormuz out of fear of approaching and confronting the Iranian forces.
