Riyadh condemns renewed Houthi attacks that injured '73 civilians'

[Rudaw] Saudi Arabia on Tuesday condemned the attacks by Yemen’s Ansarullah Movement, better known as the Houthis, on at least three of the Kingdom's provinces that “left 73 civilians injured.” This comes after the Iran-backed group said it struck vital Saudi facilities with “dozens of ballistic missiles and drones,” allegedly in response to more than 120 strikes carried out by the Saudi-led coalition on Yemeni provinces over the past few days.

Riyadh's foreign ministry condemned, "in the strongest possible terms, the terrorist Houthi militia’s targeting of civilian and economic assets in Abha and Khamis Mushait [in the southwestern Asir province], and in Jizan and Najran [in the southwestern Jizan and Najran provinces as well].”

The attacks “resulted in the injury of seventy-three civilians, including women and children,” the ministry said, also denouncing the Houthis' “continued targeting of commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the threat it poses to the freedom of international maritime navigation.”

The Kingdom "reiterated its absolute rejection" of the Houthis’ “hostile approach and criminal conduct” that threatens the security and stability of Yemen and the wider region, "as well as its continuous rejection of all peace efforts,” the ministry added.

Moreover, Riyadh affirmed “its legitimate right to take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty and safeguard its national assets,” warning against the consequences of continued Houthi attacks on “civilians and civilian infrastructure” and calling for "an immediate cessation of all forms of escalation.”

Based on our assessment, the most important ground battle at this stage of the Yemen war is unfolding along the Al-Barah-Kadha-Al Wazi'yah, Yemen front.

Both sides are fighting hard for control of this sector. On one side, the National Resistance Forces @nrfyemen, Southern Giants Brigades @alamalikah, National Shield Forces @diralwatan, and @AxisTaiz Popular Resistance fighters are pushing to recapture territory lost in Kadha and al-Barah.

On the other, Houthi Al Sammad, Reserves, and 4th Military Region Command (MRC) brigades, special forces, and loyalists tribes are holding the surrounding high ground, reinforcing their positions with waves of fighters while using missile and drone attacks to support their defenses and push back against the offensive.

The holy men have been shoved to the background and the nation is now still dictatorial but somewhat rational. That doesn't make them trustworthy, but it's a start...

The coalition vowed to respond firmly to the latest outbreak of hostilities, saying the latest escalation on the de facto OPEC leader was "dangerous."

"The coalition will take all necessary operational measures to deter this terrorist militia and resolutely confronts its hostile approach," Royal Saudi Air Force Colonel Turki al-Malki said in a statement on X.

The Houthis did not comment on the attacks, but said a statement about "a large-scale military operation" deep inside Saudi Arabia would be released.

Nasruddin Amer, deputy head of the Houthi media office overseeing the Saba news agency run by the rebels, took to social media to laud the attacks.

"The Saudi enemy has to understand that the time for committing crimes and massacres against the Yemeni people without response, deterrence or paying a price has ended," he said.

The Houthis, who control the most populous parts of Yemen and much of the north, have been launching attacks on Saudi Arabia since they declared a naval blockade against Riyadh in July, with strikes targeting its vessels in the Red Sea. On Monday, the Financial Times newspaper said Aramco’s Jazan oil facilities were hit in new strikes, and the damage was being assessed. Rooters was not immediately able to verify the report, and Aramco has not commented.

Yemen’s civil war began in 2014 when the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and much of northern Yemen and forced the government into exile. A Saudi-led coalition, including the United Arab Emirates, intervened the following year to try to restore the government to power.

Tensions rose earlier this year between US allies Saudi Arabia and the UAE as their partnership in the war in Yemen broke down, leading to the UAE pulling out of Yemen.

The civil war in Yemen has killed at least 150,000 people, according to UN estimates, and at times pushed the country to the brink of famine.
