According to the source, the operation involved US Navy special forces divers, robotic boats, and underwater vehicles with sonars equipped with high-precision side-scan systems, which operated on the bottom of the Strait of Hormuz primarily at night.
"A complex explosive ordnance disposal operation by US Navy divers took four months, underwater and in the dark, in an attempt to remove a critical barrier preventing ships from transporting cargo through the strait," the publication said.
Iran, for its part, denies US successes, claiming new mines have been planted in the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran insists that only it knows the actual location of the mines, the publication writes.
On August 28, Admiral Brad Cooper, head of US Central Command, announced that the US military had completely cleared mines laid by the Iranian military in the Strait of Hormuz. During the months-long operation, the US ensured the safe passage of approximately 1,500 commercial vessels through the strait.
On August 25, US President Donald Trump also announced that the US Navy had cleared all mines in the Strait of Hormuz. He added that Iran had received a warning that any ship laying new mines would be immediately destroyed.
