Rescuers found the bodies of unidentified people yesterday in a forest in the Yenisei District, bearing signs of a wild animal attack. Preliminary findings indicate that the injuries were consistent with a bear attack.
According to investigators, on August 31, two residents of the village of Podtesovo went into the forest to pick mushrooms and did not return home that day. The women's relatives filed a missing persons report with law enforcement. Volunteers found the women's bodies in the forest approximately 3-4 km from the village.
Investigative measures are currently underway to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy. Forensic examinations have been ordered to determine the cause of death of the women. A procedural decision will be made based on the results of the investigation.
Earlier, in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a bear attacked a camp abandoned by tourists near the Kizir River, tearing apart the boat and destroying supplies. According to the travelers, only the bottom remained intact. The group was forced to navigate the Kizir River in the torn boat, but they managed to reach the village.
Recently, bear encounters with people have become more frequent in other regions of Russia. For example, in the Chelyabinsk region, a family of bears ran out onto the road near Lake Bannoye in the dark. The mother and cubs were startled by a passing car, causing them to run ahead along the road. Later, they pulled over into the woods.
On August 19, a wild bear attacked a tent containing tourists at the Istok recreation center in the village of Artybash. The campers had pitched the tent on the banks of the Biya River. The predator tore the fabric, dragged her into the forest, and mauled a 29-year-old woman to death. Due to the emergency, authorities in the Altai Republic declared a state of high alert in the Turochak district. Movement of residents and visitors was restricted at night from 8:00 PM to 10:00 AM, and police and hunters organized 24-hour patrols of the villages. Following the incident, 12 bears were killed. The predators have become more frequent in the vicinity of villages, so population control is essential for the safety of residents.
