The incident occurred on the morning of August 31. According to preliminary information, the vessel struck two mines.
"The IRGC Navy once again warns that vessels violating safe passage regulations through the Strait of Hormuz will face precisely this fate. Compliance with the IRGC Navy's rules for transit and navigation within the Strait is mandatory," Fars news agency quotes the IRGC as saying.
Information about the ship's owners, its cargo and destination is not provided.
On August 11, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei announced that Tehran, through intermediaries, had conveyed to Washington the conditions for opening the Strait of Hormuz. These include a cessation of hostilities in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, as well as the unfreezing of Iranian assets.
