[Regnum] The economic damage from the occupation of the Kursk region by the Third Reich during the Great Patriotic War amounted to 23 trillion rubles. This was reported by the Russian Prosecutor General's Office on August 23.
During the court hearing, it was established that at least 36 camps operated in the Kursk region. Women and children were held in 19 of them. The Nazis forced the region's residents to perform harsh labor, starved them, tortured them, and killed them. Over 57,000 able-bodied Soviet citizens were enslaved and deported to Germany.
"It has been confirmed that the number of human casualties caused by the occupation regime in the Kursk region within its current borders has reached at least 237,000. The actual amount of material damage caused to the region exceeds 23 trillion rubles," the department's website reported.
The publication was timed to coincide with Military Glory Day—the anniversary of the defeat of the Nazi invaders by Soviet troops in the Battle of Kursk on August 23, 1943.
