Text: #Somalia | 7 U.S.-trained Danab soldiers killed in deadly IED attack near Balidoogle Seven Danab soldiers, including a high-level commander, were killed today after an IED struck their vehicle at Yaaq Doomar, around 25km from Balidoogle, where U.S. forces are stationed at their largest military base in Somalia. Earlier information had put the death toll at five, but the number has reportedly risen to seven. The casualties were moved between Balidoogle and Mogadishu. Danab is one of Somalia’s most heavily U.S.-backed military formations, trained and supported through an American security programme and operating closely with U.S. forces based at Balidoogle. The base is the main hub for the American military presence in Somalia, while Danab has become a central force in operations aligned with Washington’s security priorities across Somalia and the wider region |
