[Regnum] A Russian court has fined Google LLC 3.8 million rubles for refusing to remove content banned in Russia. The ruling was issued by Moscow's Tagansky District Court on August 18.
An American company was found guilty of an administrative offense under Part 2 of Article 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation ("Failure by a website owner to remove information the distribution of which is prohibited in Russia").
"Impose a penalty in the form of an administrative fine in the amount of 3 million 800 thousand rubles," the judge declared.
Roskomnadzor officers filed reports regarding Google's violation on January 27. The agency demanded the removal of pages containing information banned in Russia. The company failed to comply.
Roskomnadzor has previously repeatedly sent Google requests to remove content from its services that has been deemed prohibited in Russia, including content related to extremist propaganda.
Since the beginning of 2021, 16 reports have been filed against Google LLC for failure to remove content. In May 2026, a Russian court imposed another fine of 15.2 million rubles on the American company.

Microsoft Corporation was found guilty under Part 2 of Article 13.41 of the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses ("Failure of a website owner to remove information if the obligation to remove such information is provided for by Russian law"). The charges stemmed from posts the company failed to remove at the request of Roskomnadzor.
"The court imposed an administrative penalty in the form of a fine of 3.5 million rubles on the company," the judge announced.
On the same day, the Tagansky Court fined Google 3.8 million rubles under the same article.
Russian courts have repeatedly fined foreign IT corporations. Earlier, on June 29, Telegram Messenger Inc. was fined 3.5 million rubles for refusing to remove prohibited content. Google has previously been fined for various violations, including failing to remove prohibited content and refusing to localize the personal data of Russian users. For example, in April, the Tagansky Court fined the corporation 19 million rubles, and in March, 11.4 million rubles.
