[LibyaReview] Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said relations between Turkey and Libya remain stable, stressing that Ankara would not leave Libya alone as it continues efforts to strengthen cooperation and support stability in the North African country.
“Our relations with Libya are stable, and we will not leave it alone,” Erdogan said, reaffirming Turkey’s continued engagement with Libya at a time of renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing the country’s political divisions.
The remarks come amid increased Turkish diplomatic activity involving both western and eastern Libya. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan visited Libya this week and held meetings in both Tripoli and Benghazi as Ankara seeks to expand dialogue with political and military leaders across the country.
Fidan said Turkey would continue supporting dialogue and cooperation between Libya’s western and eastern regions under Ankara’s “One Libya” policy, which is aimed at contributing to peace, stability and prosperity throughout the country.
Turkey has maintained close political, economic and security ties with Libya for years, particularly with authorities in Tripoli. More recently, Ankara has expanded contacts with eastern Libya as part of efforts to maintain relations with different Libyan parties and encourage greater political cooperation.
The latest Turkish diplomatic push comes as Libya remains politically divided between rival administrations in the east and west despite international efforts to reunify state institutions and move the country toward a lasting political settlement.
Erdogan’s comments signal that Libya remains an important part of Turkey’s regional policy, with Ankara seeking to preserve its longstanding ties while increasing engagement across Libya’s political divide.
