Nigeria: Operation FANSAN YAMMA: Troops neutralise terrorists, recover weapons in Zamfara

have neutralised terrorists and recovered weapons during offensive operations in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The troops also intercepted a suspected terrorist courier conveying 180 explosive materials believed to have been destined for terrorist elements operating in the state.

Credible security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operations were conducted on Aug. 14, as troops of Sector 2 intensified clearance operations against terrorist groups in the area.

During the operation, troops made contact with terrorists around Garin Kaso and engaged them in a fierce firefight.

Two terrorists were confirmed neutralised during the initial encounter, while troops recovered two rifles, two magazines, nine rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles.

As the operation progressed, another group of terrorists attempted to ambush the troops from concealed positions.

The troops responded decisively, fought through the ambush and inflicted further casualties on the terrorists, forcing the surviving elements to flee the area.

Although the exact number of casualties from the subsequent encounter could not be immediately established, sources said reports from communities in the general area indicated that several terrorists with apparent gunshot wounds, alongside the bodies of some of their colleagues, were evacuated by the fleeing elements.
