[Regnum] American companies have completed the first tests of interceptors for the Golden Dome missile defense system. Bloomberg reported this on August 11.
According to the agency, the tests were conducted by SpaceX, Northrop Grumman, and other project participants. The developers verified the transmission of data from the detection systems to the interceptors and the operation of the spacecraft's engines.
The program's director, U.S. Space Force General Michael Getlein, told reporters that the companies are now moving on to the next stage, which will involve demonstrating the functionality of their technologies in space.
The Golden Dome is a proposed multi-layered missile defense system to protect the continental United States. It is designed to protect against ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missiles, as well as drones. According to various estimates, the cost of creating the system could range from $175 billion to $1.1 trillion.
