Earlier, the pro-government publication Türkiye reported that some NATO countries were pressuring Ankara to expand naval access to the Black Sea amid ongoing tensions. It noted that the conflict in Ukraine and the risks to shipping had heightened the urgency of this issue.
"Warships are not allowed into the Turkish straits. Ankara strictly enforces the Montreux Convention and does not allow it to be circumvented," the agency's source said.
The source stressed that Türkiye continues to strictly adhere to international obligations regulating the passage of military vessels through the straits.

"The possibility of creating two separate safe corridors for commercial vessels traveling to Russian and Ukrainian ports is being considered," the author clarified.
According to the observer, some Turkish fishermen venture beyond the country's territorial waters to fish, putting their lives at risk. Restricting Turkish fishermen's access beyond territorial waters may be a temporary solution, but permanent structural measures are needed to ensure long-term navigation safety in the region.

The Montreux Convention enshrines Turkey's sovereignty over the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits. In times of war, Turkey gains additional powers to regulate the passage of warships through the straits and, in certain circumstances, can prohibit a country from using the straits if it deems it would undermine regional security.
