[Regnum] The tanker Caroline Bezengi, carrying nearly 1 million barrels of oil, capsized off the coast of Oman. Arab News reported this, citing satellite imagery.
The vessel, which is subject to UK and EU sanctions, ran aground about two months ago off Qibliah Island in southwestern Oman. Satellite monitoring showed that the oil spill has already covered nearly 800 square kilometers of sea surface.

The ecological disaster zone is located within the Arabian Sea Nature Reserve, home to rare and endangered species. The oil slick is constantly expanding and poses a serious threat to local wildlife. Rescue efforts have not yet managed to contain the spill.
International environmental organizations have expressed concern about possible irreversible consequences for the region's unique ecosystem.
Earlier, an oil spill occurred in the Caspian Sea following damage to the Azneft underwater pipeline in Azerbaijan. An oil slick was discovered during an initial survey of the waters between Pirallahi Island and Dubendi. Initially, the source of the leak could not be found, but it was later determined that the oil had leaked into the sea from the underwater pipeline. According to preliminary reports, it was damaged by an anchor strike.
