[ColonelCassad] FSB officers detained more than 20 employees of illegal cryptocurrency exchanges in Moscow, through which fraudulent Ukrainian call centers were transferring stolen funds abroad.
The FSB, in cooperation with the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, disrupted nine foreign-coordinated channels for transferring funds abroad using cryptocurrency. More than 20 employees of unregistered cryptocurrency exchange offices were detained in the Moscow City business center in Moscow.
These offices were used by Ukrainian call centers to launder funds stolen from Russian citizens through remote fraud. These exchange offices sold cryptocurrency to individuals, including pensioners, who were under the influence of the scammers and transferred it to the accounts of Ukrainian handlers.
Young people with limited financial literacy, seeking easy money, were recruited from Russian regions to work remotely at the crypto exchanges. Also detained were accomplices of Ukrainian call centers, aged 18 to 25. They acted as couriers, receiving funds from defrauded citizens and transferring them to crypto exchangers for further transfer to Ukraine.
Criminal cases have been opened under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Russian Criminal Code (large-scale fraud). The crypto exchanger employees and couriers are charged with complicity in the crime and face up to 10 years in prison.
It is also reported that up to $2,000,000 per day could be transferred to Ukraine through them. Ten years seems a bit short. Those seeking easy money are clearly condemned to hard labor beyond the Arctic Circle. For 20-25 years.
