New York police official accused of driving getaway car for son in gang-related shooting

A New York police official is being accused of serving as the getaway driver for her son in an apparent gang shooting in New York City, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

Police sources told the Post that Jennifer Lackard, a deputy police commissioner with the Mount Vernon Police Department, was arrested along with her son, Chase Lackard, 20, at their home Tuesday morning. Authorities said Chase was charged with shooting at rival gang members near the Bronx Criminal Court in late June.
So he was commuting to his gang?
Sources told the Post that Chase ran to his mother in her car after the shooting, and she sped off.

No one was injured in the shooting.

Both the mother and son have been charged with attempted murder, attempted assault, criminal possession of a firearm, conspiracy and reckless endangerment.

The Mount Vernon Police Department said Tuesday that Lackard had been terminated effectively immediately.

"The allegations are unrelated to her duties with the Mount Vernon Police Department and do not stem from any conduct associated with the Department or the performance of her official responsibilities," the department wrote on social media.

The incident was far from Chase's first run-in with law enforcement. He was shot by police in 2024 after allegedly wielding a gun during an argument.

He was also shot once before in 2023 by three other youths during a dispute on a bus. Chase is allegedly a member of the "Slutty Gang," according to the Post.

It seems that when he was 17, the lad went up against two boys aged 10 and 12, and lost:


… a dispute on White Plains Road involving a firearm and saw the 19-year-old wielding a gun.

Lackard’s mom is Mount Vernon Police Deputy Commissioner Jennifer Lackard, sources told The Post. She has held that position since 2020.

It’s not the first time her son has been involved in gunplay. Lackard — who was 17 at the time — was also shot in the chest on the BX5 bus in Soundview

last year after fighting with three other youngsters.

Lackard allegedly flashed gang signs at the boys, aged 10 and 12, as he started to get off the bus in January 2023.

He then asked them for their gang affiliation — and then allegedly tried to drag one of them off the bus. Two shots were fired and one struck Lackard’s chest.

Lackard was taken to Jacobi Hospital following Friday’s shooting for treatment. He remains in stable condition, cops said.
