[KavkazUzel] Law enforcement officers in Ingushetia have detained three suspects in an attempted murder, all of whom have been taken into custody. The suspects are in connection with the February 2025 assassination attempt on Ilez Nalgiev, former head of the Karabulak police department.
As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on February 16, 2025, it was reported that Ilez Nalgiev, former head of the Karabulak police department and previously convicted of torturing a detainee, was wounded in an attack in Sunzha. The attacker shot Nalgiev several times and fled. His car was found burned in the village of Surkhakhi. Nalgiev was hospitalized with a leg wound.Â
In 2012, Ilez Nalgiev, the former head of the Karabulak police department, was sentenced to eight years in prison for torturing a detainee. In January of that year, an assassination attempt was made on him in the village of Surkhakhi in the Nazran district. An explosive device detonated as he approached the gate of the house where he lived.
On July 30, the republic's Investigative Committee reported the arrest of three suspects in the attempted murder of an Ingush resident. One of them was detained back in June, but this was only revealed after the arrest of two more accomplices. Officers from the FSB Directorate for Ingushetia participated in the investigation.Â
According to the agency's statement, the detainees were involved in the attempted murder of a 41-year-old man near the Terrasa restaurant in Sunzha on February 15, 2025: the attackers shot him at least seven times, and the victim received a through-and-through gunshot wound to the thigh.
According to security officials, the shooters fled the scene in a car, unable to complete the crime due to circumstances beyond their control. They subsequently set the car they used on fire on the road between the villages of Yandare and Surkhakhi.Â
The court had previously remanded one of the detainees into custody, while investigators requested the arrest of the other two. The court granted the request and remanded them in pretrial detention until September 29, 2026, according to a statement on the Investigative Committee's Telegram channel.Â
The victim's name and occupation were not disclosed in official agency statements, but law enforcement sources confirmed that he is "the former deputy head of the Karabulak police department," Interfax reports. The source, Sapa Kavkaz, indicated that the person in question is Ilez Nalgiev.
Security forces have not yet released the details of those arrested or the suspected motives for the crime.
