[Regnum] A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck the island of Kyushu in southwestern Japan. The Japan Meteorological Agency ( JMA ) reported this on July 28.
The tremors were recorded at 10:27 a.m. local time (4:27 a.m. Moscow time). The epicenter of the earthquake was in Kumamoto Prefecture. The maximum intensity on Japan's Shindo scale was 7.0, the highest level.
Following the earthquake, a tsunami warning of up to 1 meter in height was issued for the coasts of Ariake and Yatsushiro Bays. No casualties were reported.
Earlier, on June 25, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean off the northeastern coast of the Japanese island of Honshu. The earthquake's center was located at a depth of 39 to 51.7 kilometers. The following day, a magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck Yamanashi Prefecture near Tokyo. The earthquake's center was located at a depth of 20 kilometers. The tremors were felt across much of the country, and there was no tsunami threat.
