Text: #UPDATE: Al-Shabaab Targets AUSSOM-Ugandan Military Positions in Janaale, Golweyn and Number 60 Al-Shabaab militants launched coordinated overnight attacks on several military positions manned by Ugandan troops in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region, targeting bases in the district of Janaale as well as the areas of Golweyn and Number 60, according to local residents and security sources. Heavy fighting was reported at the targeted locations late Monday night and continued into the early hours of Tuesday, with residents describing sustained exchanges of gunfire and explosions. The full extent of casualties and damage was not immediately clear, and there has been no official statement from the Somali government, the Ugandan military, or the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
