[Regnum] Chinese authorities have issued an orange (high) alert for several regions of the country in connection with the approach of Typhoon Hongxia. The China Meteorological Administration reported this on July 25.
On the morning of July 25, Hongxia strengthened from a tropical storm to a typhoon. Meteorologists predict that it will make landfall on the night of July 26 near Hong Kong, along the coast of southern Guangdong Province, and east of it, as far as Huilai. The typhoon will then move northward, gradually weakening.
Heavy rainfall is expected on July 25, hitting Guangdong and neighboring Fujian Province, as well as the island of Taiwan. Downpours will then spread to northeastern China, including Heilongjiang Province bordering Russia, adjacent Jilin Province, and coastal Liaoning. Heavy rains are expected in eastern Shandong, central Henan, and Yunnan in southwest China.
Winds will gradually increase in strength along the coast of Guangdong and Fujian provinces over the next three days. Rainfall is expected to reach 150–300 mm in eastern Guangdong, southern Fujian, and southern Jiangxi. In some areas, 400–450 mm of rainfall is forecast, creating a high risk of natural disasters.
China has a four-tier disaster warning system: red (highest), orange (high), yellow (high), and blue (moderate).
Typhoon Bavi struck Taiwan on July 11. In the first 13 hours after landfall, over 400 mm of rain fell in some areas of the island. The heaviest downpours hit mountainous areas, raising the risk of flooding and landslides. Waves up to 8.6 m high were recorded in the southeastern waters. The typhoon's toll in Taiwan has reached 135. Heavy rainfall caused significant damage to transportation infrastructure in several areas, and 247,558 households experienced power outages during the typhoon's passage from July 11 to 12.
