Text: #UPDATE: Al-Shabaab Shells Ethiopian Military Base in Somalia’s Bay Region Al-Shabaab militants fired mortar shells at an Ethiopian military base in Bardale district of Bay region overnight, with several rounds landing inside the compound, according to security sources. The attack targeted a base housing Ethiopian forces operating in the area as part of security operations in Somalia. The sources said the shelling caused damage inside the military camp, although details about possible casualties or the extent of the damage were not immediately available. Residents in Bardale reported hearing multiple explosions during the night as the mortar fire hit the area. Al-Shabaab has previously carried out similar attacks against Ethiopian and Somali government forces in Bay region and other parts of southern Somalia. The militant group frequently uses mortar attacks, ambushes, and roadside explosives as part of its ongoing insurgency against Somali authorities and allied forces.
