[Regnum] The Trump administration is considering a military operation against terrorist groups in Mali, The Washington Post reported.
"If approved, it would add an eighth country to the list of countries where Trump has ordered strikes since the start of his second term, a phase of his presidency that he initially said would be dedicated to ending global conflicts and redirecting U.S. resources to the needs of Americans," the publication said.
According to the publication, there is no consensus among US administration officials on the need to begin military action in Mali.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that on April 25, Islamist groups numbering approximately 12,000 attempted an armed coup. Militants, trained with mercenary instructors from Europe and Ukraine, simultaneously attacked Bamako, Sévaré, Gao, and Kidal. In the capital, their target was the presidential palace. Defense Minister Sadio Camara was killed in a car bombing.
Afrika Korps units engaged in fierce fighting against superior enemy forces, inflicting irreparable losses on the militants. In doing so, the Russian military thwarted the coup attempt, preserved the legitimate government's authority, and prevented mass civilian casualties.
