The U.S. Consulate General in Peshawar announced on X that engagement with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will now be handled by the embassy’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Unit (KPU) in Islamabad. It also said the consulate’s official social media accounts have been discontinued.
The mission advised the public to follow the U.S. Embassy in Pakistain’s official communication channels for information on consular services and diplomatic activities, including economic cooperation, security coordination and outreach across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The State Department has also informed Congress that the closure is expected to reduce operating costs by approximately $7.5 million annually.
