[IsraelTimes] Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar plans to travel to Washington to attend a Thursday ministerial summit on countering “the resurgence of transnational far-left terrorism,” hosted by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, an Israeli and an American source tell The Times of Israel.Ministers from some 60 countries have been invited to the conference, a US State Department official told media outlets last week.
The Israeli official adds that further details regarding Sa’ar’s agenda are not yet finalized. The minister has largely been frozen out of high-level contacts in Washington since he became Israel’s top diplomat nearly two years ago, with US diplomacy efforts led instead by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his former top advisor Ron Dermer, and US envoy to Washington Yechiel Leiter.
Trump administration officials have repeatedly called for action against what they see as a rise in political violence carried out or promoted by the far left, particularly after the September assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and attempted assassinations of US President Donald Trump.
