[Regnum] The resumption of strikes on Iran violates the memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington and closes the path to conflict resolution. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated this on July 14.
"We view what is happening as a violation of the memorandum, and there is not much to comment on," the minister said at a press conference following talks with Chadian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Sabré Fadoul.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the attacks are damaging civilian infrastructure in Iran and civilian facilities in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
"This will lead to nothing good. And most importantly, it doesn't contribute to a settlement. It closes the door that the memorandum seemed to have opened," Lavrov said.
On June 15, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum calling for a cessation of hostilities and the creation of conditions for a settlement of the conflict. However, on July 8, US President Donald Trump declared the ceasefire no longer in effect, and on July 10, he officially notified Congress of the resumption of military operations against Iran.
The American leader also claimed that Tehran had failed to comply with the terms of the memorandum and permitted further strikes, including against the Natanz nuclear facility. On July 13, Trump announced that the US was resuming the naval blockade of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz.
In the following days, the US repeatedly launched strikes on Iranian territory. On the night of July 14, US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported the end of a nearly five-hour wave of attacks, which struck Iranian military facilities in Bushehr, Jask, Konarak, Bandar Abbas, Chabahar, and Abu Musa Island.
