[REGNUM.RU] Ukrainian mercenaries have begun to be actively recruited for terrorist attacks in Africa. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced this on July 9.
On Thursday, Lavrov met with Mozambique Foreign Minister Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas in Maputo. The diplomats discussed the situation in the Sahara-Sahel region, the conflict between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, and other crisis areas.
"We advocate for a negotiated settlement, while simultaneously suppressing terrorist threats, which, unfortunately, continue to exist on the continent. Moreover, Ukrainian mercenaries have recently begun to be actively used in these terrorist attacks," Lavrov said at a press conference following the talks.
The Russian Foreign Ministry previously noted that Ukraine has become a logistics hub for the illegal arms trade and weapons supplies to terrorists in Africa. In March, the ministry's spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, noted that, according to the US-based Institute for the Study of War, every third assault rifle used by extremist and terrorist groups worldwide is of Ukrainian origin.
Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that, due to corruption in Ukraine, weapons supplied by the West to the Kiev regime are appearing on the black market in Africa, the Middle East, and other regions.
