| Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) regained control of Kurmuk |
| 2026-07-09 |
Text: The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on Wednesday morning regained control of Kurmuk, the administrative headquarters of Kurmuk locality in southern Blue Nile State, reversing gains made by a rebel coalition comprising the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-North), according to multiple security sources speaking to Sudan War Monitor. The RSF and allied fighters withdrew from Kurmuk following the army advance, with security sources saying some forces moved toward the Ethiopian border while others retreated further south in the direction of Yabus. The loss of Kurmuk disrupts the coalition’s push from Sudan’s southeastern frontier toward central Sudan.
